Pedroia killed that inning.
They give us a out on a bunt and he fails to cover. Then they give us a DP ball and he decides to dive onto the other half of the infield.

Why is Xander on this roster if you're never going to use him in spots like this? He's the designated driver.

On the first play, Pedroia was five feet away from second because of the shift and has no chance of getting to first before the runner. On the second play, if Drew doesn't range over that far (and Pedroia has no idea that Drew is going to get to that ball because he's behind him), Pedroia has a shot of knocking the ball down and saving a run.

BTW, the reason Maddon gave up the DH was to save Fuld as a pinch-runner. Which may have just won him the game.

OK, easy enough - we just need 2 runs and don't have Ortiz. Piece of cake.

That was tough to watch, but Rodney is no guarantee in the 9th. Would love to rip their hearts out right here.

We only need one run.
Farrell has made so many dumb moves tonight I don't even know where to start.

No irony intended that the ad between innings was for treating irregular heartbeats. Is there a treatment for the condition known as WJFM (Watching John Farrell Manage)?

Farrell just pinch ran for Middlebrooks instead of pinch hitting for Berry?
I know I am repeating myself here with the Farrell bashing but am I not justified? My god.

Wow. Xander comes in to do what he does best, of course. TBS suggests he may try to steal a base.

YOU'RE PINCH-RUNNING XANDER BOGAERTS FOR WILL MIDDLEBROOKS

WAIT WHAT THE FUCK YOU'RE PINCH-RUNNING XANDER BOGAERTS FOR WILL MIDDLEBROOKS INSTEAD OF PINCH-HITTING HIM FOR DREW LAST INNING What, a marginal speed increase isn't worth sacrificing PH-ing a future all-star hitter for a minor league pinch runner?

Carp is gonna hit for Berry. Ahh I had almost forgotten about Carp -- thank you for the reminder. Oh indeed, thank you. I had spaced on that. Still, don't think using Xander there is necessary or worth foregoing him helping in another situation (one that involves hitting). But yeah, makes sense Farrell's going with Carp over Xander against a righty for Berry.

Non-rhetorical/snarky question. Is Bogaerts faster than Middlebrooks?
