What are the rules about waiting to announce newly signed players until after the rule 5? Seems like teams are announcing signings today to try to sneak guys through waivers like we did with Napoli/Castellanos

What's to prevent every team holding off on announcing signings until spring training?

Roof - former Sox draftee, SS-UTIL, spent last season in A(+) ball, looks like an org player. I go to a lot of the Clearwater Threshers games. I've seen Roof play. Roof will be good for infield depth and if he ever makes it to Fenway he won;'t start...late innings if at all. I honestly don't see him as a big leaguer.

I did not realize that Dan Duquette has never sent a Rule 5 prospect back since joining the O's. I just can't see them keeping Michael Almanzar.
