That Fielder single is a good example of why Ellsbury wasn't regarded as an elite defensive center fielder early on in his career. Hit right at him, and he initially froze instead of breaking in on it. He's improved a lot in terms of his routes, and those hit right at you are the hardest, but that was a catchable ball.

Joe West.. Knew would end up seeing that dolt late in an important series. Hoped it wouldn't be one involving Boston. Hope Sox don't end up with dolt #2 Angel hernandez later on, as both ALWAYS get picked to blow some calls and act arrogant in the post season.
Edit:
Such a relief to see the Sox ALCS game on Fox.. many despise McCarver.. I liked him as a player (personal catcher for greats such as Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton) but the man is a wealth of baseball knowledge that some guys just don't seem to like for some odd reason.

I wouldn't mind seeing them test Cabrera at 3rd with a bunt, just to feel him out.

I wouldn't mind seeing them test Cabrera at 3rd with a bunt, just to feel him out. Cabrera will be playing in against Ellsbury and Victorino, which makes this strategy more difficult. I'd rather see guys like Drew or Middlebrooks try a bunt and use the element of surprise against a Cabrera who is playing back.

Bright side: 26 pitches already for Sanchez.

Always gets on my nerves to see umps behind the plate refuse to check with the other umps on some check-swing calls. If it isn't overwhelmingly obvious, check.
EDIT: Ha, did you guys hear that exchange between Lester and West? Lester: "I'm not showing you up at all I promise you. I get excited out there, you know?"

This game makes me think of a Sea Dogs double header I saw a few years ago ... the two pitchers that day were Jon Lester and Anibal Sanchez. Fun afternoon at the park

I would be pretty pissed if I were Sanchez. He had Ross struck out and it wasn't that close.

Notice Sanchez has got a lot of "Tiant" in him with his wind up. I always wondered if Tiant taught him that way back when he 1st came up in the Sox organization. Maybe someone here knows?

Too bad the Sox couldn't get any runs, but every pitch is one pitch closer to getting to the Tigers' pen ...

Red Sox still being no-hit. Sanchez is getting swings-and-misses in droves.

Baserunning cost the Tigers at least one run there. Just inexcusable stuff.

Great choice by WMB going home. Iggy would have beat that out if he went for two.
And Lester gets out of it.

Hey, look everyone: Anibal is throwing a no-hitter.
Did you hear that? ANIBAL IS THROWING A NO-HITTER. Zero hits for the Red Sox.

About 80 pitches for Sanchez heading into the 5th and WMB swings at the first pitch... Hate it.

So, uh, the Red Sox offense is kind of being dominated.

WMB is a moron. First pitch out yet again. Get bogey in

WMB is a moron. First pitch out yet again. Get bogey in To be fair, the "work the pitch count" strategy had gotten the Red Sox exactly zero hits through the first four innings. Sanchez had also retired seven straight hitters since his last walk. Trying to jump a first-pitch fastball in the zone is not an awful strategy there.

Bad pitch by Lester-- just hung a curveball. Now, he needs to not get rattled and retire Infante before the damage gets worse.
