Boy the Cardinals are brutal defensively. Freeze and Adams have range from their left toe to their right toe.

Well, that'll put the fear of god in 'em. Papi spits on Siegrists' 0.45 ERA.

Tazawa warming up? With a 7 run lead?

I have to wake up early here tomorrow and it's late around here, so I just turned out the TV just in time to miss Papi's HR.
Now he has to hit one again in Game 2.

Still more understandable than Matheny going to important reliever after important reliever while down five runs.

Tazawa warming up? With a 7 run lead? He's had three days off and is guaranteed another off-day on Friday. Carlos Martinez is warming for the Cardinals for the same reason. Ideally, he wouldn't come in, but if Lester leaves a baserunner on, he could come in for a hitter or two and have Dempster come in for the ninth.

This is Dempster/Workman time, not Junichi time.

Great outing for Lester!

I presume for one batter and then Dempster for 9th?

Who's this Nava dude? Must not be very good, I can't remember seeing him start....
Edit: and he immediately hits a double on a 96 MPH fastball. Huh. Probably some kind of fluke.

What's with the glove chewing? Someone get Martinez a teathing ring.

Lester now has two great world series starts under his belt.
Great to see Nava get that double after Farrell sat him too.
Man I love this team!

I'm late to the party on this one. Martinez was signed by the Red Sox? But lied about his name, etc.... Then was signed by the Cardinals?

Hirschbeck has called a good game behind the plate; however allowing all these batters to call time while the pitchers are in the middle if their wind ups is not cool as someone is going to get hurt.

Well, that'll put the fear of god in 'em. Papi spits on Siegrists' 0.45 ERA. MLB radio had "analysts" on today spouting gibberish about the superiority of Cards' starters because they threw harder. Lester was consistently up in the 95 range this game, and Lackey's been able to touch that also, though not as regularly. Same with the relievers: St. Louis is all about gas to hear them tell it. So what? The Sox know what to do with fastballs. The talking heads need to get more realistic with their evaluations. The Cards have, I'll bet. It's just one game, but this isn't the Dodgers.

What can you say: Fenway wasn't particularly loud or hostile but these Cards weren't ready for primetime (or Lester).

Great win. Pressure's on Wacha now. Love to get Lackey enough run support to steal that one.

Great win. Pressure's on Wacha now. Love to get Lackey enough run support to steal that one. Honestly, I don't think a win tomorrow would be a steal. Wacha has had an impressive start to his career, but Lackey has had an impressive season, he's a more experienced postseason pitcher, and he's coming off of a great start (although Wacha is as well). Great win, feels good.

Could someone who is well seasoned in statistics baseball-wise maybe point me in the direction of a statistical ranking of all the teams fielding wise using advanced fielding metrics?
I'm curious to know how they stack up against other teams. People have said they're bad on here but errors wise they're fairly low as I've seen from the more traditional metrics.
Thanks.
Great win! Real important game (as all of these are), I think if we can win game 2 things are looking really good.
