Matheny trading favorable splits for greater chances at a double play. Gutsy move so early in the game.

Methany might be doing the Sox a favor bringing in Maness in here.

He must have thought Farrell would pinch-hit Gomes, I think.

Nava!
Gomes would have GIDP, but made Peavy have a better first inning.
Let's go X.

He must have thought Farrell would pinch-hit Gomes, I think. Huh? So let the Sox bring Gomes in the game, THEN make the switch. The team with the lead always has control of the matchup situation.

Pitch hit Ross for Salty here if Seigrist is coming in.

I've got a good feeling about this game. Felix is looking relaxed and in control. Hitting his spots. The Cards are reputed to be weaker against LH pitching. We have a real good chance of taking this game. Now how about a freaking good call from the umps once in a while and maybe a break or 2 and we win this thing. The calls in favor of the Cards are about 2 or 3 to 1 at this point.
I don't let Drew hit again in this series. He is now 2 for 37 folks. With a very high strikeout percentage. Let's roll the dice with Bogaerts at SS and pinch hit for Drew. It's time. We can bring in Middlebrooks and bludgeon these guys into submission.

Didn't half of us call for Ross in this game?
Come on Farrell!

Two meatballs and Salty predictably swings through them.

AB's like those are why you can't get upset over sitting Middlebrooks' power. Unless it's a lefty on the mound, I keep starting Drew (although he does look exceptionally poor).
Also hoping to see Ross start two of the next three games, at the very least.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Don't PH for Doubront now!!!!!! Don't use up your bullets in a tie game this early, and take out a guy who has been effective. Let's try to save both our PH and bullpen bullets in a tie game.
It ain't on the order of hitting for Willoughby, but it's annoying to say the least.
I swear -- down through the years, Red Sox managers have seemed to have a total lack of sense about how to manage tie ball games.

Can't catch a break...Drew makes that play

Thought WMB should have cut it off and made the play himself. Oh well, would have been close regardless but Drew probably gets him.

At least it's Tazawa here instead of Workman. High leverage relievers in your high leverage situations.

That was hard hit, but that's a ball you need your third baseman to at least knock down. Also, need to cut that ball off to keep the hitter at second.

He has 0 range and slow reaction time at 3b, those two give away PH at bats last inning really hurt defensively Edit-Honestly why I think they offer Drew at least 2 years next year, they cant be sold on WMB. Let Drew play SS one more year, break in X at 3rd and wait and see on Cecchini for 2015

That inning right there is why the sox don't bench drew. I will be honest, and for those who have seen Xander play in the minors keep me straight but Im not seeing it defensively at SS for him.
