First 10 run game of the year. With an exclamation point! X marks the spot. That is so hard to believe.

Stating the obvious here, but that kid swing is a thing of beauty!

I'd rather have 5 runs each in two games than 10 runs in one game and 0 in the next, but oh well, I'll take it.
Guess Mujica wasn't available today?

I watch Xander at 3B and I see a guy who is continually improving his ability to play the infield.
I don't see where his skill set is particularly suited to 3B rather than SS. That play he made a few nights ago, going ridiculously far to his left and backhanding the ball for the force-out (on review) -- that plays just as well at SS as it does at 3B.

Agree Eric. Still an open book to me. But, I'm an amateur. I do respect professional opinions and Merloni likes him better at 3rd. And, I was surprised to hear Remy say that tonight.

Agreed he looks better defensively at 3b, the issue after the season is that LT, that counts on Marrero filling in and he's probably not going to be much of a hitter, but a defensive guy at short, while the team has 2 3b options in Cecchini and even WMB if they choose to give him another try next season.
Might be best to hurt the defense and stick with Bogaerts at SS and try someone with some type of offense, even singles/OBP in cecchini, or a last hurrah with WMB.
I can't see Marrero hitting enough to play FT SS on the Sox, unless they find several more offensive bats.

Maybe I am higher on Marrero and lower on WMB and Cecchini than others, but I think the best left side of the future (as in 2015), from an in house perspective, would be Bogie at 3rd and Marrero at SS. I'll take the known defensive tool with the below average bat over the iffy offensive potential and below average D. Just my opinion though.

Especially, if Marrero is as good as advertised defensively. The problem might be 3 defense-first guys; Vazquez, Marrero and Bradley. Really are going to need plus, plus offense from the other positions if we go that route. I have some confidence JBJ will be a decent bat as he cuts down his k's. He wouldn't be the first player to do that . And, maybe Swihart can give us a plus bat behind the plate.

For what it is worth, Bradley is too good an athlete to continue his poor hitting ways. Have faith that he will rebound. For whatever reason it is taking him longer to adjust, perhaps moving into the big time too fast.
It makes such a big difference to have a healthy Napoli in the lineup.

I'm not saying big hitter but averagish for a shortstop. He's been making steady progress with his at bats and could be a decent gap power hitter with a light touch of speed.

I like Marrero too and believe he can give you just as much with the bat right now as Herrera and much more with the glove and arm. I don't think they want to start his MLB service time yet, and they just paid Drew $10M to be on the DL....uh i mean, play the position.

Attention sellers: Sox now only 4.5 out of the Wild Card. Crazy year and opportunity still abounds.

Agree with what others have mentioned on Marrero. Nice to see that he is making progress with the hit tool and playing great d like advertised.

The issue is not how many games behind they are, but that they have to play better than the eight teams ahead of them in the Wild Card standings.

Quick! Trade him to SF before he doesn't drive one in next at bat. (I don't have to put this in italics, do I?) Pedroia had a tremendous game, I am not going to refute that fact with any "yes...but" comments. He was off the charts great in the field and was productive at the pate. Most important for me is this is the first game all year that I saw a spark or some intensity in his play. He didn't look like he was just going through the motions. PS: Let's not forget San Fran still needs a second baseman!

Fangraphs likes us quite a bit (4th highest winning percentage in the AL rest of the way), but still only gives us a 22.8% chance of making the playoffs, better than only the Astros, Rangers, White Sox, Twins, and Rays.

I second Guidas's existential approach, and vote we replace Farrell with Soren Kierkegaard as the new manager. I hear he has never once called for a bunt.

I'm glad Farrell agrees with me for a change.
