I believe the game may be on NESN. Can't see it from here but am interested in the kid. Read different views on him by the amateur scouts ( Mellen, Baseball America, etc), but the Sox must know something.

Rodriguez looks pretty good to an untrained eye. No radar readings on the broadcast, but the fastball looks lively. The changeup seems to be a good weapon vs. righties. He's kept the ball down for the most part, and when he challenges high with the heater he's been blowing it by the hitter. Very good and consistent pace. He and Swihart look to be on the same page, executing pitch sequences.

He and Swihart look to be on the same page, executing pitch sequences. They're giving some readings on the MiLB broadcast. Sitting 91-92 hit 95 in the first 94 in the second. Slider has good movement. Pitch count is a bit high but he hasn't missed by much but on the other hand has thrown a few into the dirt. Generating a lot of swings and misses, especially on high fastballs. The hit was on an 0-2 changeup, credit the hitter, it was a good pitch.

See where Mellen is changing ( or covering his butt) on his views of Rodriquez. Maybe the Sox did make the right move. Let's hope so.

Mellon put out a report earlier at BP that was pretty decent and pretty much matches what SP profile shows and pretty much matches what we're seeing today. Mellen summary was projects as a #4, not ceiling as #4. That's a pretty positive report. His velocity went up a tad in the 3rd, threw a lot at 94.

He hasn't gotten a lot of close calls, which is contributing to the high pitch count, but he's putting the ball right where he wants to.

Chris Mellen#RedSox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez showing more lively FB than last time I saw him. Sitting 92-94, and has touched 96. Some trouble keeping down.

Although I respect Chris' ability, I certainly hope the Red Sox are not trolling the prospect sites looking for scouting reports on Rodriguez or anyone else. Perhaps the organization is able to do its own scouting, both at the major and minor league levels, and not just gauge the ability of a player by reciting their stats and underlying components.

The HR came off a 94 FB that was relatively low but was also pretty much hammered. 70 pitches thru 4 innings 47 for strikes. 1 BB 5 K.

Agreed and if we got a guy who projects as a #3 for a two month rental of a lefty reliever that's highway robbery considering how much more valuable starters are and the amount of control we have with Rodriguez. Even as a #4 the deal was awesome for us.

Throw in the fact that there's a good chance we can sign Miller this winter. It's all good.

I'm more than happy with the trade. The fact that he's a solidly built lefty is also particularly nice.
Was impressive to watch a 21 year old not phased by the first two hitters reaching base on errors.

Nice first start.

Only problem I noticed, early changeups in the dirt. Swihart looked impressive stopping those.

17 out of 21 first pitch strikes for Rodriguez.
I really like his mechanics. He's the type of lefty that should see see a big drop in walks as he develops.

Mellen is fairly good considering, but did not beleive his analysis justified his conclusion. Regardless, it means crap. Trusts the pros, and it seems Rodriquez showed something today . On another subject, something is happening out there. Minor league stats do not predict as well as they did. The transition to the majors is becoming more difficult. Ask Bradley, Webster, and Xander.
