A few of those curveballs from Clay looked really good to me.

He's not pitching well either.

Bradley would have caught both hits to the outfield. It's not possible to know for sure, but yes, I think he would have had those. His jumps are just outstanding. Interesting part is, if he were out there and caught them, we would have hardly taken notice.

Surprise, Clay Buchholz is awful/injured/out of sync/select one or all of the above. Get this guy off the team please. The team isn't going anywhere this season. Its in our best interest to let him work through this and work off that for next year. If he doesn't do well next year then we can think about getting rid of him. 4Ks in two innings, lets hope he can turn it around.

Has anyone suggested to Clay that me should try breathing through his eyelids, or wearing a garter?

Bogaerts is hitting everything on the screws on a line, right up the middle. Not getting anything to drop though, very frustrating.

The Sox are not a good fastball-hitting team.

Watching this offense is worse punishment than doing time in the state pen.

...so I can't watch the game at the moment, but I'm looking at the box score and liking Buch's performance. Two earned over six innings? Eight strikeouts to two walks? 9:1 GB/FB ratio?
Does he look as solid as the stats would indicate? Because it looks like a hell of a reason for optimism to me.

Not if you listen to all the whining online right now! lot of pitches through 6 is all you can really complain about though. He still needs some work to get back to a quality pitcher.

So does Buch's 7IP 5h 2r 2W 8K's now become a quality start or is he still horrible out there and deserve to be DL'ed? Anybody got any answers?

Good to hear. I'm pleased that he's still capable of this type of performance against an offense that isn't the Astros. Also happy that the curve looked good - I've felt for the most part that his stuff had taken a pretty big step back this year. Granted, that's an eyeball test and not in any way backed by pitch f/x data or anything. Just seems to me that he used to be filthy at times and that has generally been missing this year.

Funny how JBJ's otherworldly defense makes people think he has fantastic speed, when in reality he's not that special of a runner. The Angels announcers are talking about his "incredible speed" and the need to watch out for him bunting for a single.
ADD: Wow. That's the best contact JBJ's made in.... almost forever it seems. Double play, of course.
ADD2: Red Sox Stats ?@redsoxstats 2m How about this...
Clay Buchholz threw 32 curveballs tonight... a career high.
ADD3: Unless it's Mookie Betts, I don't want to see a non-JBJ body patrolling center field for the rest of the season. Or next season.

Thanks for proving me wrong, Clay, and not letting one inning destroy you. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

I have tix for tomorrow's 1230pm game. Yeah, this team's offensive output tomorrow is gonna be fascinating.
Edit: Am I going to be witness to Dan Butler's first starting game?
