No pregame theatrics at Salem. Although the announcers are still talking about it. MB LF, "I'm 100% sure it was foul, not 99%, 100%." Stuff happens for all teams. As I said yesterday, replay was inconclusive, LF had a better view than the ump and although he's biased, his reaction was immediate, it probably was foul. LOL, good.
Pat Light is ranging FB 95-100 mostly 97-98, throwing strikes. 1st inning, mostly FBs, a few changes. Announcer said stadium gun is pretty accurate.
0-0 after 1 PawSox up 3-0 early Portland up 6-0 early Coyle 1 HR, Welch 2 HRs
Salem up 1-0.Margot (walk) scored on a Romanski groundout off the pitchers glove. Pelican pitcher Parra looks impressive. Tall lefty, announcer talking him up. . . 1-0 after 2. Light still throwing mostly FBs, Pelicans sitting dead red. 1st pitch strike ratio must be good (I'm not charting) but pitch counts might be high per inning.

Coyle is insisting on making me look like a fool for not believing in him or wanting him added to 40 man. He did have a sparkly career low 24.7% K rate this year...

MB with a two run GB triple down the first base line. Light had given up a bunt single and a walk. Still throwing almost all fastballs. 2-1 now.
Crap 3-1. fielding error on Light, he could have nailed the runner scoring from third.

Starters' lines so far (omitting Light since the box score's behind):

Barnes. Is dealing.
One runner thru 5.
I think the playoff situation matters and the recent dominance in aaa should lead to a key 2015 starter role by June.

Barnes with another 1-2-3 in the t-5th. Still 3-0 PawSox.
KDLC solo shot in the t-5th makes it 7-0 Sea Dogs. Haley allows a couple of singles in the bottom half, but gets out of it.

Salem's bats now falling silent. Down in order in the t-4th.
But Light regroups with a 1-2-3 of his own in the bottom.

Still 3-1. Pelican's pitcher Parra uses his entire pit mix well. To use an old expression Parra is pitching, Light is throwing.
Aro in relief, 4-1 now. Throwing 91-92. got out of the inning, nice throw by Romanski on a caught stealing.
A couple general comments. If Light was in the upper minors, I'd have him pigeonholed as a future late inning guy., Vinicio is way too aggressive, almost like he decides to swing or not before the pitcher even goes into his windup. Asuaje is a tough out, quality AB every time. Last AB (PA,LOL), he was fooled on a changeup for strike 2 but that's rare and he came back for a walk.

Haley yields a single in the b-6th, but gets a GIDP to end the frame. Still 7-0 Dogs.
Barnes allowed a 1-out double in the t-6th, but nothing more. PawSox up 3-0, still just 2 H for SYR.

After a triple & sac fly to start the b-5th, Aro's in for Light. Issues a walks, but nothing further. 4-1 MB leads Salem, t-6th.

Ryan Roberts with a 2-run double to score Shaw (walk) & Cecchini (single). 5-0 PawSox, b-6th. Garin's now 3-for-3 on the night.
EDIT - Make it 6-0 as Marrero singles Roberts home.

Tough to see JBJ continue to struggle. Only one to strike out in a 3 run inning against Rivero, 6-0 Pawtucket after a Roberts 2-RBI double and Marerro single.

Parra done, bullpen game. Impressive pitcher, nowhere near as fast as Light but I'd swap pitchers in a heartbeat (that's just a one game statement, btw). He's basically how I picture Johnson to have looked when he was at Salem (No Salem team TV so I don't know that). 4-1. Aro looking good.
Aro just struck out the side after a lead off single. Mixes pitches, goes after the batter. Nice framing by Romanski on pitch 3 of the last strikeout.

In his short A+ stint Vinicio had nearly an impossible K:BB rate.
IIRC Barnes struggled towards the end of his first full season (2012) but now has been lights out in the second half of 2012/2013. Some ups/downs, but is going into first option year having some success at AAA, not bad.
(can say the same thing about Owens... gonna have all 2015 before he has to even be on 40 man)

Tough to see JBJ continue to struggle. Only one to strike out in a 3 run inning against Rivero I have to think he's going to be on the outside looking in for any September call-up. OF time and PA are going to be hard to come by with Castillo & Mookie there, and they can't cut the workloads of Cespedes, Nava and especially Craig short. Hell, I'd rather see Hassan &/or Brentz getting the at-bats instead of Jackie at this point.

Boscan in for Haley in the 7th, allows a single but gets a GIDP to finish the frame.
Justin's line: 6 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 8 K, 61/94.

A single off Barnes in the t-7th, just the 3rd hit off him, but that's it. Through 7 scoreless with 6 K, 0 BB. But he's at 101 pitches (65 strikes) so he's probably done.
