It's gonna be awesome seeing a core of Bogaerts, Betts, Swihart, & Moncada for years to come

So says you. This is only based on speculation, even if it turns out to be true. Maybe the the secret workouts are only to determine if the Yankees will decide to beat the Red Sox offer. See, that's more speculation. So says me and a lot of other people. Doesn't make us right, but it makes the most sense. It's better than saying I'm a Sox fan so that means the Sox will wind up with Moncada. I'd be absolutely thrilled if the Sox went out and got Moncada, and maybe that happens and we're all celebrating today, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Yankees have a more glaring need, a very recent game plan of spending big on international talent to improve their comparative limited minor league talent base, and a history of doing whatever it takes to get a guy they really, really want. Is is speculation? Of course it is. Everything is speculation until the guys actually signs. I personally felt the Sox would wind up signing Sandoval, not signing Lester, and I felt they had a great shot at signing Castillo. Those were three instances I speculated correctly. That goes against the other 500 million times I didn't speculate correctly of course. Make that 500 million and 1 times I speculated incorrectly!!! WOW!!! I'm am so psyched about this!! Ben Cherington, for $60 million, has helped make life beyond David Ortiz's career a very palatable thing. I can now dream of a future lineup that includes guys like Betts, Bogaerts, Swihart, Devers, Margot, Castillo, and Moncada!! This means that if Pedroia gets old, or Sandoval busts, or Hanley's injury history gets the best of them, it's not the end of the world. They don't have to rely on veterans who have seen their best days. The Red Sox future lineups should be as good as the Cubs future lineups. Ben Cherington has taken care of the Red Sox future. Well done Ben! I'm so thrilled to be wrong. The Yankees really, REALLY, blew it big time not signing this kid. $60 million is a drop in the bucket for that team. Wow!

No, I'd take you doing that and getting Moncada ANY day of the week over Moncada going to the Yankees. This is absolutely fantastic!!!

I had already started telling myself that he sucks because he will be wearing pinstripes, but I'm pretty sure I can change my mind on that. What an awesome surprise.

It worked out well. The Yankees can have Jose Contreras. We're even now. And if Tiant did influence him, that's great. Once upon a time (in 1974), as you well know, the Sox took a flyer on a HOF pitcher who had seen better days. That pitcher didn't do much for the Sox, but 24 years later, Juan Marichal helped influence a young star named Pedro Martinez to give Boston a chance, when Pedro wasn't initially thrilled to be dealt to Boston. Maybe history repeated itself here with Tiant? All hail Tiant who could be huge in helping to assimilate these players to Boston.

So, is he ahead of Swihart now? I kinda have them tied. We have already discussed internally that he will debut at #2 until we have the chance to see him in person. Which hopefully will be in a couple weeks. He could jump to #1 at that point.

So not to rain on the parade here but this is still a somewhat raw prospect who's being treated like the next Mike Trout... There's a long list of hyped guys who never even make it and odds are still against Moncada being a solid major leaguer let alone a stud.

So Greenville, Salem or Portland?
I'd have to imagine they're going to start him at 3B, which would probably rule out Greenville because of Devers. I'd guess Salem.

I think we realize he's not Trout because he would have cost $200 million and penciled into the opening day lineup if he were.

Today there should be no doubt about Ben Cherington. Simply outstanding. Our future looks so damn good! Panda will eventually move to 1st or DH and Moncada will be our 3rd baseman for many years to come. LOVE IT!! I appreciate the flexibility that the owners have given Cherington to be able to always look ahead.

Salem would be the logical place to start him.....and at 3rd. If all goes well after a few months, we could see him finish in Portland.
