Some tweets, sorry if some have been posted.... Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd 8m8 minutes ago In the final stages/working out contract language means the deal could still fall apart. This isn't 100% done. JJ Cooper ?@jjcoop36 8m8 minutes ago As @benbadler has already Tweeted. Moncada would have ranked 10th on our Top 100 if he had signed by its release date. Ken Rosenthal ?@ken_Rosenthal 9m9 minutes ago Moncada expected to need 1-2 seasons in minors. And yes, one option for #RedSox going forward will be to move Sandoval to first base. Ben Badler ?@benbadler 17m17 minutes ago Once it's official, Yoan Moncada immediately becomes Boston's new No. 1 prospect, and the No. 10 prospect in baseball. Ben Badler ?@benbadler 20m20 minutes ago Yoan Moncada is going to the Red Sox. Full report, background and a quote from a scout who's followed him for years: bit.ly/1JCNWOz Ken Rosenthal ?@ken_Rosenthal 25m25 minutes ago Said on @mlbnetwork this AM that #RedSox don’t have obvious spot for Moncada. Pedroia signed thru 2021, Sandoval thru 19, Hanley thru 18…However, having too many good players is never a problem. #RedSox can figure out rest later. And they keep Moncada away from #Yankees. JJ Cooper ?@jjcoop36 30m30 minutes ago Red Sox young talent: C: Swihart/Vazquez. Grade: A. 1B: Travis/Shaw Grade: C-. 2B: Betts/Moncada/Chavis/Coyle/Rijo Grade: A+ Red Sox young talent: SS Bogaerts/Marrero/Guerra/Dubon/Lin Grade: A. 3B: Moncada/Devers/Cecchini Grade: B+. Red Sox young talent: CF: Moncada/Betts/Castillo/Margot. Grade: A. Corner OF spots are weaker, but 1 or 2 of CF candidates could slide over

So where does this guy fit in on the list? I say #2 behind Swihart, but the guys may want to see him first. Mike discussed that a dozen or so posts back, and that is the general take.

I was wrong about the Yankee reports I guess. No idea what they're thinking here unless they just don't really think he's that good.

Like this move. Also if you haven't seen Cashman's statement on this: Cashman: "You only have so much money to spend. We have massive financial commitments and when you make those you have to live with them.'' (Translation: "Screw you. We're buying Price and Zimmerman next year. And Upton. So there.") Let them. Zimmermann won't the same pitcher in our division. That's why I'm not willing to give much up for one year of him. Price would hurt, but you can't expect the Yankees to lie flat whenever. What's weird to me is that regardless of their "commitments", the signing doesn't go against the luxury tax, and the Yankees generate the most revenue in baseball, so you can't convince me they didn't have $60M to spend. Very weird lack of commitment from the owensrship if you ask me. Wonder if they're considering selling the team.

Count me as one of the surprised (and ecstatic)! The sox were relatively quiet on this one. Amazing job by Ben and the gang, the farm is truly stacked.
Throughout this process I wondered if the Yankees' aggressive spending closer to July 2 would have any effect on their willingness to spend on Moncada. The Yankees grabbed 10 or so high profile names for about 15 mill, thus spending close to 30 million already when accounting for the overage. Now I know thats likely pocket change for these guys, and probably had little to do with Moncada, but in contrast we broke our spending limit by very little I kind of think the Red Sox did so knowing they would be aggressive in this market before next July. Anyways, I'm thrilled.

Definitely looks like Napoli's last year here without a lot of other moves.

Looks like we now have 4 young legit MVP candidates from our farm (XB, Betts, Swihart and Moncada) as was noted last week.

Joel Sherman ?@joelsherman1 32s33 seconds ago Tampa, FL #Yankees offered $25M with willingness to go to $27M which is same offered Jorge Soler who went to #Cubs for $30M This is amazing. The Yankees clearly have more need for Moncada and they lost out to the Red Sox for under five million? I would have told you this scenario was literally impossible as of about 45 minutes ago.

Ben just made my summa(s). Moncada hasn't actually been signed. Is it too late to change my vote?

Definitely looks like Napoli's last year here without a lot of other moves. We're going to need compensation picks with a lack of international signing for the next two years.

Good for the Sox. 30 million isn't that bad they were saying 40 to 50. If your going to go over might as well get the best player. Now they have back up in case they need to make another move. Injuries etc. The Yankees bought out like 10 of the top 30 of the international market. That was weird they had 3 meetings. Would you ever see the day that prospects don't go to the Yankees? All I heard was he is going to New York? Good for the Sox.

So Greenville, Salem or Portland? I'd have to imagine they're going to start him at 3B, which would probably rule out Greenville because of Devers. I'd guess Salem. Obviously fantastic news, I assumed he would be wearing pinstripes to. Your post however lead me to believe it's very possible the Devers becomes a trade candidate or perhaps already is and the Sox are just refilling the coffers so to speak. Fodder for though anyway.

I hadn't read that he might be a CF candidate. I also didn't realize how fast he is. He beat Castillo in a skills competition thing running around the bases.

Man, crazy shit happens on my way to work.
This is obviously great news. Great depth and top end talent now in the Sox system + Betts and Bogaerts already in Boston. Love it!

How deep does our top 25 and under look now? Not only did we get him, but for a lot less than people had speculated he would get. I get the argument of where he plays, a lot can happen over the next 2-3 years at the big league level but I'm more intrigued at where he plays in 2015. (position wise)

Amazing! At no point in this process did I seriously entertain the belief he'd end up with us. Cue the daily rumors that Hamels will be traded for one of our 'surplus' prospects Bogaerts or Betts every day for the next 5 months. If Sox are trading one of those two "surplus" prospects, we'd better get Thor Syndergaard, Carlos Rondon, or a similar high-rising, long control arm back.

Holy smokes!! Is Cashman throwing a chair in a hotel room somewhere? That Salem team is gonna be must see TV, if he ends up there. Margot, Rijo, Moncada, Travis, some interesting pitching ... I'll buy my Frederick Keys ticket today for the first Salem trip to Maryland. It's a shame that Salem doesn't do MiLB.TV. That entire league has close to zero coverage.

I think you're looking at this through Red Sox colored glasses. You also thought the Sox were going to bring back Lester too, and the Red Sox' offer was woefully short. Money talks in this game and the Yanks will spend what it takes to get Moncada. ahem. Point to grandsalami. Big Point. I'm so glad you were right! I can't believe the Yankees weren't willing to up their offer. How ridiculous. Somebody pointed out that the difference between their offer and the Sox offer was Stephen Drew's contract. Isn't that hillarious. The Yankees have all the money and they don't invest in the future? How stupid! I really like the Sox chances the rest of this decade. If (always a big if) they have the pitching, the Sox should be favored to take this division for the rest of the decade. Kudos to Ben for planning beyond Ortiz and Pedroia, something Nick Cafardo can't seem to comprehend.
