I will point out, before someone else does, that Soler was signed in late June, so it's not entirely analogous - he got into games quick. But that said, a) the 14 games in the complex league are basically a shorter version of the Moncada stint in Extended, which is the pre-draft GCL, and b) since it was late in the year, they needed to rush if he was going to get into ANY A-ball games. Sox have the luxury of not needing to rush.

For reference's sake, Xander Bogaerts was assigned to Greenville on June 9 in 2011 out of XST. So, while I expect to see Moncada before then, we could have about another four weeks before I start to wonder what's going on. Clearly Moncada is being held back to avoid a rash of "He's ahead of Bogaerts at this stage" columns, tweets, posts and or call in discussions.

The Sox have mentioned how they're trying to do right by their International signees, and this guy is from Cuba after all. I think a little in the way of preparation is not a bad idea. We are all immersed in this media-driven culture, so we come to take a lot of it as a given. But for someone coming into it for the first time or after having been away, it can be very disorienting. That's one of the reasons the US changed it's approach to returning soldiers from the time of Vietnam to now. The returnee is given time to adjust to the jarring differences between where s/he's been, and the States. Why would it be any different for someone who's spent his formative years in Cuba, a place that was purposefully off the main stream for 50+ years? There's the baseball side of this, and there's got to be some preparation for the insanity that is sure to ensue once he's out in the mainstream.

Bogaerts DOB 10/1/92, MLB debut 8/20/13, so just over a month shy of his 21st birthday. Moncada's DOB is 5/27/95, so call it 2.5 years later, so he'd have to debut in April of next year to keep pace. Your point certainly stands though.

You guys have inside info. Why don't you share some of it or is there a gag order in affect? LOL! (Good joke, but it's "effect", not "affect".) I think it just makes him sad

We are lucky for having A. Speier " Moncada rising There still isn’t an exact date for Yoan Moncada to leave Fort Myers, and the Red Sox continue to feel that he’s benefitting from the opportunity to lay the foundation for his professional career there. That said, his run in extended spring training is nearing its conclusion, and before long, he’s expected to join Single A Greenville. “He’s made some great strides that we’ve seen in terms of acclimation of routines, getting used to some of the things we do on the field and off the field,” said Crockett. “I think it’s been invaluable for him. As we said from the get-go, it won’t be too long-term a thing. It’s something that we’ll be looking at here pretty soon.” www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/05/14/deven-marrero-breathing-easier-pawtucket/6j0CtgGifMjUoWlSo4YFeL/story.html?event=event25

Edes tweeted last night that he was supposed to join Greenville last week but hurt his elbow diving into 2nd base (mild elbow strain) but he'll join the team in a matter of days. *typing from my phone now, I'll post the tweet when I'll have a pc

That's exciting. I really want him to rake. It would be awesome to see him be the real deal and climb the ladder fast.

What did you tell me? I corrected you on where the injury was and said that there was no indication they delayed an earlier debut date.
