my apologies 33.6% Math was off a little. Still very high. Still denotes an area for need to correct before moving on. He's striking out 30.1% of the time. You calculate strikeout rate with plate appearances as the denominator, not at bats. First I heard of that calculation. Very good. So, I guess the question comes back to, do you think that moncada is bat ready to move on to the next level and maybe the bigs by next year? Seems to be a question of where he plays and how is glove will make out. So his bat and speed appear to be his ticket.

Ian Browne for mlb writes that moncada will be up by late august early September. Have got him working out at 3rd.

He's speculating that, it's not a report. It's a really good speculation . Stay tuned . Interesting. He'd be a solid 25th guy on the roster as he can pinch-run, survive defensively in a few positions (I'd hope), has some pop and some big-time speed, and can be a real option at the plate. Look forward to seeing him. Sorry this is off-topic but I had to ask you as you haven't been on in awhile - what was the thinking behind the Espinoza/Pomeranz deal as far as was there a sharp divide among the FO on the willingness to give up a rare pitching prospect the caliber of Espinoza for a guy who has yet to really establish himself? Or was it a slam dunk deal as far as the FO was concerned?

He's speculating that, it's not a report. It's a really good speculation . Stay tuned . Late August makes no sense, but selecting him as soon as Portland's season is done is, I think, a no-brainer. Teams usually carry 11 pitchers and an extra position player in the post-season. The bench will start with Vazquez, Holt, Hill, and Young; the current options for fifth man are Marco Hernandez, Bryce Brentz, Josh Rutledge, Bryan Holaday, Ryan Hanigan, and Deven Marrero. Even if Moncada is used strictly as a pinch-runner, he'll probably be more useful than Hernandez.

As an aside, I think if Moncada gets aggressively promoted, Shaw gets moved next deadline. I also think Clay gets re-signed on his option, and moved prior to the next deadline, too.

The data supports his bat should be ready. So you move him to 3rd? But when do you think it happens on a regular basis?

Good question does Farrell play him if brought up? I can't remember where I read it, but Moncada played a lot of 3b on the Cuban 18 and under national team. So it's not like he's starting from scratch. Also said he played some outfield.

It's a really good speculation . Stay tuned . Spoke too soon. His timetable has been pushed back . I just worry about Moncada's righty swing and 54% K rate against lefties. Seems he needs more time unless they want to use him in platoon. What about Kopech. Any rumor he gets promoted if he keeps pitching lights out like he has the last three starts?

I hope we don't mess up Moncada by rushing him, but he will genuinely serve as a real threat off of the bench.

You're right, I don't think we'd be messing him up, just that he might be overmatched against MLB lefties, if AA lefties so far are striking him out pretty consistently. I'm not hearing anything about Kopech being promoted to AA, and in fact as of last week, I was hearing that he's "definitely" staying in Salem for the playoff. So I thought I'd try to ask brisox, who I think has been a reliable source of Sox "rumors". Persistent! is a nice way of saying what I think you mean.

“@ryanhannable: Red Sox have had discussions about bringing Yoan Moncada up once rosters expand, but haven’t made a decision one way or the other.”
