True but not my point. Kraft backed down pretty quickly. Maybe there is another reason but I'd be pretty disappointed if he chose the league over his team (picks - 1m is DEFINITELY not a big deal) AND his player (and that player's legacy).
That's why I'm hoping for not just a reduction of the suspension but an absolution.

If Brady has to miss a single game for this ludicrous scandal, then Kraft absolutely lost this.
But I have little doubt he'd ultimately side with Goodell/the league if push came to shove. Kraft was extremely instrumental in building the Goodell monster up in the first place.

Kraft looked like Reek of Game of Thrones during today's press conference. He acted like him too. No balls.

I would have been much happier catching a sneak peek of Garoppolo for four games and keeping the picks. Brady playing a couple extra games in September does nothing for me.

We play three good teams in those four games. That could make or break or season, and we don't have much time left with Tom. The penalties were designed to hit is in the short and long term. It was a total bag job carried out by ex Jets execs.

He did buy that party house in Tampa, but I guess he flipped it?

Tom Brady's suspension is upheld, largely because it was suspicious how Tom Brady destroyed his phone before it could be used for investigation. Man, if only he smashed Gisele with the phone in an elevator then he'd only have gotten 2 games. I wish that the Pats could refuse to play the 4 games (or even the season) to lower the ratings and stick it to Goodell.

The press conference today was classic coach Bill.
Robert Kraft will not be having the commish over for any more dinners.
I think Brady and the Pats will lose in court. Time will tell.

I think Brady and the Pats will lose in court. Time will tell. Why? Saints and Peterson won. Gotta say, the phone thing IS fishy. Even if you're getting a new phone, you don't have to throw the old one out. I still have my last two. Although that's more out of laziness than anything.

You're also not a famous professional athlete who needs to worry about data security. That said, it was a boneheaded move to destroy the phone after you'd been asked for it.

Well his explanation kinda makes sense, if I were him I'd be worried about anything coming out- look at all the pictures that have come from hacked celebrities that make their way on to the web. If it weren't for the fact that he apparently destroyed it the day he was interviewed by Wells, I'd assume he's just trying to keep nude Gisele off the web. None of it makes sense anyway though, he clearly wasn't going to turn his phone over, so I'm not sure if it makes any difference

The day is suspicious, but almost too suspicious to the level that it is not suspicious. By the day of the Wells hearing, he had already consulted with his attorneys, so there is no way he would have done this if they didn't give the go ahead. If there was ever a chance that he was going to turn it over, it would not have been destroyed. If they thought spoliation would apply, it would not have been destroyed. The NFL has no subpoena power, so they can ask for the phone, and he can say no. End of story. I doubt he has a great chance to win in court unless they can find another CBA loophole, but this thing has gotten ridiculous. One thing that is clear from all of this is that when the CBA is up, there will likely be a strike over the disciplinary authority of the NFL. I can't imagine the players will not demand a neutral manner for deciding these disputes.

My experience was as a long time union rep. Few cases went outside the collective bargaining agreement to the courts. All the cases I saw it was only process and not facts that could be dealt with. The phone could come back and bite Tom also. If those texts were stored by the phone company or some app he was using they could still be out there. Again JMO.

To be fair, Peterson won at the district court, but I think it is still pending in the circuit court, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that decision overturned on appeal.

Question, would you turn over your phone that likely contains information as to your passwords, private correspondence, off-hand comments to and from friends, relatives and co-workers not to mention in the case of Brady, private numbers and contacts to well known individuals (given the circles he and his wife travel in) to an organization that leaked false information about the case (11 of 12 footballs more than 2 psi under the low limit), sanctioned a report that accepted a referee's memory of the psi of 12 (or more footballs) to an accuracy of one tenth of a psi while rejecting his recollection of which of two gauges he used for the measurement and had the the same person essentially act as judge jury and executioner? Seriously? Maybe if Brady said all that before publicly giving his phone the bass-o-matic treatment he would have had more support.

Even conceding the entirety of the above, you should absolutely still retain the phone (a) in case it could be used as a bargaining chip (e.g., the NFL might say "if you give us the phone, we'll eliminate the suspension") and (b) in order to avoid losing the P.R. battle (which, as the Rice saga has taught us, means a lot).

I mostly agree, although again, I do think that Brady, given his profile and the fact that he seems to like whatever privacy he can get, would be the type of guy I would expect to switch phones every few months anyway. I also am pretty sure it's impossible to lose the PR battle with Roger Goodell, especially in a case like this where the worst thing that could've happened is Brady telling some dude to let some air out of a few footballs. Especially cause Goodell just suspended Brady for the same amount of games as Greg Hardy
