That moment when you see the series matchup and realize that is their 1,2,3 and not their 3,4,5... Edited to remove "our" since we're not apart of the team. The best part is their #4 is Jerome Williams, who I would've assumed had retired years ago.

I would have preferred Napoli versus Hamels, especially the way he is swinging the bat currently.

I'm going to have to be careful ... if Victorino starts off cold, I'm going to be hating on him too hard. I'm already annoyed seeing him batting sixth without the DH.
I hate interleague play. Starting off with interleague play is annoying.

Lots of rumors that MLB will adopt the DH across the board in the next few years. Watching parts of yesterday's Cubs-Cards game, I was reminded of what a gimme it is to have the pitcher with a bat in his hands. All the arguments for the strategy involved with pitcher bunting are lost on me.

I love interleague play. We already play almost half our games against the Orioles, Jays, Yanks and Rays. Thats more than enough in my eyes. People want to see new teams.

Read Doug Melvin's quote in here.

People want to see new teams. The Phillies aren't new, they're oooooold. You know what I meant. Sure the Rays are "new" but seeing them 19 times is just a little too much. Rather see them play other teams more. Even other AL teams like the Tigers or White Sox.

3 up, 3 down, but I'm not sure Tanaka threw a single fastball in that inning, it was pretty much all offspeed.

I don't like the Ortiz start. It's not even about the Lefty bat. If the game's lost because of a line shot Napoli would have had it's going to be an irritating opener. I realize Ortiz is going to play first some but it didn't need to be the opener.

Tanaka's elbow hasn't fallen off yet but the Yankees are calling the bullpen.

Tanaka's elbow hasn't fallen off yet but the Yankees are calling the bullpen. Walks and errors = disaster, especially against the Blue Jays, because you know that long ball isnt too far behind.

I would love it more if they finally instituted the DH. Enough already of the pitchers hitting. That said, I could not be more excited for this season and this Red Sox lineup, particularly with a healthy Napoli.

Is there some way to see in gameday (or elsewhere) how many of what types of pitches Tanaka threw?

Only if the games are in Fenway. I'm going to lose it if Papi gets hurt playing 1B or one of the pitchers gets hurt running the bases.

Your avatar shows a pitch that demonstrates how inaccurate an indicator a two-dimensional strike zone outline is. The strike zone is a 3-dimensional concept, not two-dimensional. This preoccupation with the Yankees while waiting for the Sox game to start is amusing.

Two things I'd like to see in this series: Monday: Buchholz outpitches Hamels. Wednesday: Buchholz staples the box score to Nick Cafardo's forehead. And, Victorino staples the Monday box score where the Sox rout Hamels to Nick's ear. He's been promoting Cole to Boston all winter. You guys are really taking it easy on the writers. Forehead and ears, indeed.

This preoccupation with the Yankees while waiting for the Sox game to start is amusing. Yankees? Nah, I'm just watching our competition for the AL East pennant, the Blue Jays. Hutchison looking reasonably competent so far. (Tanaka knocked out after 4 IP, someone had him at 32% fastballs.)

Chris Martin's control/command looks pretty amazing. Struck out Bautista with 4 strikes (one not called), Encarnecion and Donaldson with 4 strikes (one not called). When I say not called, I meant they easily could have been, not that they were undoubtedly strikes. He was painting the corners on every pitch.
