Masterson should start hitting cleanup. Seems like more of a table setter, high OBP guy. All though they say that power is the last tool to develop.

"the team is betraying subtle signs of anxiety about a player for whom patience is both required but also something other than endless." is pretty far from "Bogaerts is trash". Speier of all of the beat writers chooses his words very carefully. They took a lineup they were using the entire spring and have already tweaked it while Bogaerts hasn't looked all that great (and it's not just the two games - he didn't look great in the spring from what I read (admission that I didn't see any ST games)). Pointing that out isn't the same as screaming the sky is falling because the ball isn't falling in for him. Lol at Alex's backtracking after the single. Must be getting killed by the Tweeple. Alex Speier @alexspeier The story wasn't suggesting 2 games as a sufficient sample to glimpse struggle. Instead, meant to offer window into some of the... Alex Speier @alexspeier ...conversations happening around Bogaerts and potential dilemmas presented by the possibility of sustained struggle. Poor Alex ... really fell on his face with this one today.

The highest BA on the Sox so far (other than Masterson): The X man.

Y'all are relatively quiet when we win... Well yeah, we beat the Phillies, but they are, you know, the Phillies. What happens when Breslow tosses his 89 mph junkball to an actual major league hitter remains to be seen.

I so happy for XMan. Already they started with Mazz on the radio that he looks like he lost too much weight. He is still getting fooled on the breaking pitches.
They asked Farrell about him hitting eigth and he said the player kind of shows where he is gonna bat by the way he approaches his at bats etc. So this guy is already starting with the kid. But really two games in and he got a hit and RBI second game in. I mean the weather sucks.
So in conclusion I am giving XMan as much time as possible no matter what happens and I am pumped about last night. Hopefully that shuts up Mazz. No wait he still has Porcello to complain about. Lol.

Y'all are relatively quiet when we win... To be fair, there was some dialogue going on early in the game when things were happening. But the last six-ish innings of the game were pretty uneventful. Just not a lot worth talking about.

Again guys, it's not just the two or three games. www.providencejournal.com/article/20150409/SPORTS/150409265/14009That's the player admitting his timing was off all spring. Not Farrell getting on him. Not the media. The player. I know the Boston media can be rough, but let's not default to that being the case every time they point out a guy isn't doing well. Now, while that "triple" was really just a bloop single misplayed by Frenchy, let's hope that helps get him jumpstarted. Little things like that can start getting a guy more comfortable in the box, timing starts coming back, etc.

Who we playing this weekend? Don't see a thread:) Oh you know who we are playing lol. I love the progression of schedule early in the season. We go from playing possibly the worst team, to playing what might be the most mediocre team in the league and then onto who could be the best team. Philly-NYY-WASH.

We're not facing WSH at its strongest though. Denard Span, Anthony Rendon and Jayson Werth are injured. Those are their 1-2-3 hole hitters of last year. Replacements include Clint Robinson and Dan Uggla.

If we're looking for good signs from Bogaerts, the fact that he was able to go the other way with pitches he was getting regularly beat on last year is right up there for me. If he can take control of the outer half of the plate - even with a seeing eye triple - that's a plus. Pitchers will play a perceived weak spot like a child will worry a scab. You've got to make them stop. So the best of all was the way he lined his last hit out to right with authority. They won't go there as often if he can do that.

Agreed. Not saying I'm worried. But I think the problem is that Speier writes at a certain level of nuance that isn't typical of a daily sports writer beat. Based on his extended explanation in 108 stitches today of what he was saying, it does look like Twitter jumped all over him last night.

This article kind of deserves mention even though everyone reads 108 stitches. It's another perspective of possible breakout prospects. Victor Acosta sticks out at the end and is quite a bit more enthusiastic than the scouting report on this site. I didn't even know there were two kids named Acosta. That article was a short blog post and shouldn't be behind a pay wall. Globe doing a poor job with that and even more so with transparency and cost. Why would I pay more than $4 a month to get local news?

Why would I pay more than $4 a month to get local news? At the risk of a tangent, basically, newspapers screwed up by not charging like this the whole time. The industry is dying because they haven't been charging for online articles. So yeah, that's why you have to pay for the Globe online now.
