Are the Phillies following the 76er's model for tanking here? Why was Giles left in the game that long? I mean I'll take it, but just pure silliness.

Papelbon vs Hanley showdown. Love it. Another SP.com drool fest.

I hate Papelbon's cocky face so much. Nice weather, that ball is gone.

Hard to hit it out on a cold rainy night like tonight. Any other day that's a HR.

Just awful bullpen management by Sandberg these two games.

Is there any valid reason not to pinch hit for Hanigan here?

Xander stilll pressing with RISP.
Oh well, I'll take 161-1. But. geez, if I felt confident about a game in this series it was this one with Harang starting. And so it goes...

I came home late to discover that a Comcast screwup had caused ESPN to be recorded instead of ESPN2. So I went to FanGraphs and read the play-by-play. When I got to "Hanley Ramirez flied out to left (Fly)," I immediately guessed that the weather had held it in the ballpark, and came here to find out if that were true.

The BABIP gods have not been kind tonight. Recorded the game and just finished. No doubt about this, Mookie himself could easily have been 2-4 with a 2B & HR.

There's nothing crueler in baseball than the line-drive double play. The non-assisted triple play maybe?

Even without the charts from Brooks, it was obvious that the strike zone was a funky one. But that's something both teams had to live with. Even with the distortion, the Sox still had a few chances to take this one over - Napoli's LD was crushed but the defender didn't have to move at all. And fenway's BABIP gods laugh. A few feet one way or the other and it's a different game. So it goes in baseball.

who gets to catch Wright's knuckler? Hanigan, I would think.
Ortiz with another weather-related day off today?

And now to the portion of our program where I hope the pitchers live up to the narrative and actually pitch like #3s. These next three days could be fugly.

Ortiz with another weather-related day off today? 1) You realize Masterson is pitching tonight, right? 2) I think you're confusing Ortiz with Victorino. Latter was the one they said wasn't playing b/c of weather. I could definitely have missed something.
