Seeing the game day thread back is almost as good a sight as Fenway coming into view on the walk up from Kenmore. Play ball.

Two things I'd like to see in this series:
Monday: Buchholz outpitches Hamels.
Wednesday: Buchholz staples the box score to Nick Cafardo's forehead.

Finally! It's time to watch some baseball, get going on the season, and start getting real results instead of endless opinion and projection ...

Is there a reason Cafardo and Abe have been doing that other than click-bait?

Is there a reason Cafardo and Abe have been doing that other than click-bait? Neither one is a good writer? Abraham has some baseball knowledge. He's not that good, but he's not bad. I think it's fair to say that Cafardo, however, knows less than zero about baseball -- a repository of incorrect, received wisdom. It's kind of shameful that he has a job formerly occupied by Gammons and (obviously to a lesser extent, but he was and remains very good) Gordon Edes. (It suggests, incidentally, that the Globe sports editor knows nothing about baseball, either ... I've thought about sending them a letter every time Cafardo says something obviously wrong or stupid, but I literally don't have time for it.)

I'll never understand the whole stupid play one game, day off then finish the series. It's so stupid. I think it makes good sense, especially in the northeast where the chance of bad weather in early April is pretty good. Opening day is not just any game, it's special for the fans and way more special for those with tickets! If it rains, there's a chance to go again the next day. If it rains again then you still get another chance for the opener in a day-night doubleheader.

Baseball Is Coming! So excited although night games start at 1 am where I live heh. Mookie takes Hamels deep on the second pitch he sees!

Baseball Is Coming! So excited although night games start at 1 am where I live heh. Mookie takes Hamels deep on the second pitch he sees! Yeah, I used to be that way 40/50 years ago. Excited for opening day. Following the action inning to inning however possible -- radio, then calls to the local sports line (sorry, pre-Internet.) Placing undue emphasis on the outcome, whether positive or negative. Now I'm older. Grouchier. Looking at the season with a much different perspective. Realizing that beyond the pomp and circumstance, it's one game. It means, especially to a team realistically wanting to contend, no more than any other one game, especially when the prize is so very, very far away. That being said, Mookie could hit the second pitch he sees out of the park.

And ill never understand the 3pm, weekday start time when probably 80% of us work. I am a big advocate of MLB learning from the NFL and making Sunday afternoons an all day national baseball affair. And it should start with Opening Day. Half your games start at 1 PM, the other half at 4 PM. Carry it on two networks, ESPN and Fox. For a sport desperate to develop more of a national instead of regional interest I think this is a simple tactic they have completely missed the boat on.

What logic is there behind a monday 3 pm start time exactly? During the school year, no less.

What logic is there behind a monday 3 pm start time exactly? During the school year, no less. It makes the game end just around the time we Europeans want to go to bed? (Also Easter Monday is a public holiday around here.)

That moment when you see the series matchup and realize that is their 1,2,3 and not their 3,4,5...
Edited to remove "our" since we're not apart of the team.

With baseball games being almost meaningless since July 31st last year, Opening day took forever to get here. This should be a great year to be a Red Sox fan.
I hope we sweep this team and outscore them by at least 15 runs in the series. Although I'm not a Philly fan, I'm pretty spiteful towards them, and RAJ will be deserving of every one of his 100+ losses.
