I get it that Xman isn't kicking ass but it would be nice to have him move up to see better pitches and be protected in lineup. It is a little harder to get going when you hit in front of the catcher. I mean Farrell had him hitting in front of the god dam pitcher when they were in Philly. This is one of the reasons why I don't think Farrell likes Xman. The X-man certainly is not the classic Number 8 hitter .... but Farrell plays A.L. baseball, even in N.L. parks.

Quality move keeping Robbie Ross Jr. over Anthony Varvaro. Between last season, spring training, and this season, Ross Jr. has consistently looked on point. Need a go-to guy like him to face Joey Bats, EE, and Martin. Also was a shrewd move to squeeze out those extra days of Mujica by burning Varv..

Bad baseball. They have to turn this around. This team is much better than it's playing.

And there was never a peep about him causing trouble in his years in Atlanta. So the idea of him arriving in Chicago and immediately pissing everyone off in a day or two seems pretty farfetched.

This team was cool with selling low on Middlebrooks and Ranaudo (rightfully so), but wants to squeeze out every bit of assurance that Allen Craig can't play baseball anymore, despite the amount of depth they have.
Xander is a bust. There. I said it. There's not having power and then there is being completely inept at driving the ball. He's like Jose Iglesias without the glove or the luck.

Offensive powerhouse lineup my ***
“@joncouture: The 2014 #RedSox had .712 OPS through 29 games. 2015 #RedSox, before getting two-hit tonight, had a .704 OPS. Did not see that one coming.”

Then why was he DFAD so quickly Varvaro was DFA because the Cubs have no room on the 25-man roster for him, yet they have no bullpen depth on call in AAA.
Cubs claimed him with the idea of putting him thru waivers and outrighting him to AAA. Vavaro made it thru the A.L. on waivers last week, so he's a good bet to get thru the N.L.
Smart move.
Cubs' bullpen shuffle .... chicago.cubs.mlb.com/team/transactions.jsp?c_id=chc#month=5&year=2015&team_id=112
Edit: THE ABOVE IS WRONG. "The waiver rules work differently in April. Varvaro didn't make it through the AL unclaimed." SEE below.

Unlike Iglesias, he actually has plenty of power. His swing/balance/everything are just so horribly out of sync right now that he's completely negating the chance to utilize the power potential.

Who can we sell at the deadline? Napoli if he starts hitting a little? We need a LH bat next year anyway. Koji?? Would someone take a flyer on Buchholz? Reasonable option if you think you can salvage him. We can't. I doubt anyone would take the contracts of Victorino, Craig or Miley.

Gotta love all these comments questioning Farrell's abilities to manage. Never mind that he brought another crappy Ben roster together and won a title. No, he gets no credit for that. But Ben continues to get credit for his roster building skills, as putrid as they are.
Leave Ben. Now. You're gone anyway so you might as well bow out gracefully. In his place I'd like to see a GM who realizes that 90% of sure-shot prospects wind up as trash, and will trade them for upgrades of the parent club, like real 1st division teams do.

If we're having the same conversation in three weeks then that's a different story.
