Looking forward to seeing what Alejandro De Aza will do tonight. I thought last year when we played the O's he was one tough out. Here's to him.......being one tough out!!

Pete Abraham @peteabe 28s28 seconds ago View translation #RedSox: Pedroia 2B, Holt 3B, Ramirez DH, Napoli 1B, Bogaerts SS, Betts CF, Swihart C, De Aza LF, Castillo RF, Miley LHP Why is Brock Holt still batting 2nd? Is this last years team or? Some RHB/LHB argument? So frustrating. If you're going to move Betts down, at least put Bogaerts second. In a game where Farrell actually sits Sandoval and Ortiz vs. LHP, I'm not complaining one bit.

Sandoval's futility against LHP is truly puzzling after he had been worse vs. RHP, but not terrible, throughout his career.

Eh, versus a LHP, a lineup of something like: Pedroia Betts Ramirez Napoli Bogaerts Holt Victorino Swihart Castillo ...should be able to kill. It's just a question of these guys playing to their true talent levels.

Before seeing Hanley play LF, I penciled him in as probably an above average left fielder. Now you've got him as a -8 WAR value player. WOW.
It makes you look at things in ways you wouldn't even imagine normally. Like where the heck is he going to play going forward ( insert Hanley and Panda here )?
If Ortiz gets much over 400 AB his contract for next year is guaranteed. They might want to think about his PT because they clearly have a Hanley problem and I don't think it goes away unless he's a DH.
I would look closely at Ortiz's performance over the next month or 2 and if it doesn't improve, I would reconsider brringing him back under that contract provision.
Blasphemy but I think true.

Yeah you missed the disclaimer about that being merely descriptive and not at all predictive. Using WPA really does not give a fair assessment of a player's performance, it just rewards being in the right place at the right time.

WPA doesn't reward you any more than it penalizes you for context. And how is "descriptive" not aligned with "assessment of a player's performance"? WPA is not predictive (i.e. it isn't "repeatable"), but your post is nonsensical

And how is "descriptive" not aligned with "assessment of a player's performance"? These guys are professional athletes, they are always trying. Hitting a game-winning RBI single is not any harder or easier than hitting a leadoff single when you are up by 3 runs. The latter is just as much actual performance as the former. But WPA will largely ignore the latter and make a huge deal out of the former.

Jmei, what was that you were saying about Red Sox pitchers not fielding their position properly?

There is something very strange about a team's leftfielder and rightfielder batting eighth and ninth.

We're definitely trying to make Kazmir throw a lot of pitches. Looking at a lot of strikes so far.

Napoli complaining about the strike zone before the game. Takes a pitch right down the middle and swings at a pitch that bounces off the plate....KK
