Expanding the strike zone is/was a stupid idea IMO Pitching dominance continues to be a problem in the league. Why not just implement, you know, a normal strike zone? Stop calling that low strike and I guarantee hitting numbers will see a slight bump.

Is this the dead ball era strike zone? Funky games from the Umpires. That ball was easily 6" to 8" below Ortiz' knees. You'll have a hard time convincing me this isn't part of some master plan. Great consistency for the hitters when the rules morph from one year to the next, no? It seems like it's one umpire to the next, way worse. But a wide strike zone like this will do wonders for Kelly with his ridiculous movement.

Of the ten called strikes on LHB today, 7 have been outside the zone...

I love that Bogaerts has made himself into an average/slightly above average defensive short stop. That goes a long way.

Bad play off the wall for Mookie. Can't let that ricochet get over your head.

Kelly needs to throw every pitch to Zobrist about 6 inches outside.
edit 1: Make that every left handed batter.
edit 2: Make that every batter.

Xander .302/.347/.407 wRC+ 110 4th in the majors for qualified SS. 5th in the league in fWAR amongst qualified shortstops. By the way, the shortstop crop in the league has really thinned. The aging stars at the position (think Tulo, Reyes, Desmond) have struggled this year, and there aren't too many guys who look like they can be legit two-way impact players at the position.

Wait til the power comes. He's already on pace for a 4 fWAR season as a 22 year old.

Bad play off the wall for Mookie. Can't let that ricochet get over your head. That ball went just far enough to scrape the wall, and it was lucky enough to bounce off the edge of one of the half inning markers, at an off angle. I didn't see it as bad play at all, I saw it as Fenway Park. Just ask Zobrist. Coming to you from the great northwest

Just a great at-bat by Ortiz. Couple of vicious swings-and-misses on outside off-speed stuff. Made an adjustment and found one to put on the wall.
He'd hit at least .280 if he'd make a conscious effort to go the other way more often.

Bryce Brentz would have 5 RBIs in this game by now, just a pathetic offense.

He's still going to be well below-average out there, but it's nice seeing baby steps out of Hanley's defense in LF.

Mods showing weak humor . Sox are beating the 14th place team in the AL. Just as much over reaction as the DFA guys, but worse because they should know better.
