He also seem to neglect DR and Venezuela. I'm all for finding talents all over the world but the focus should be in places where traditionally strong talent comes out.
If there is any part of the Red Sox organization that I feel confident saying is among the best in the game is the International scouting department. If somehow the Red Sox were to make wholesale changes at the top I hope the International scouting department remains intact.

I've never known much about the internal workings of the Sox management. You guys are much better informed. For some reason I had been under the impression that Shipley was good at his job but didn't get along with some of the team's management. That impression may have been formed before Dice-K cratered. Didn't he also get Tazawa? Yeah, but he also gave a lot of money to guys who suuuuuuucked. I'm not even talking about talented kids like Almanzar who didn't pan out, but like, Adalberto Ibarra and Oscar Perez were just abysmal signs. The Red Sox also got nothing out of their international signees for years, a weakness I remember Theo acknowledging at a Hot Stove Cool Music event during a roundtable interview. It's amazing in retrospect just how bad it was back then. As someone who started following prospects during that time period, my idea of the international market was basically that it didn't really exist as far as the Red Sox are concerned. Like some teams could get talent there but as far as the Red Sox were concerned it was just a back hole where you threw money at the best slow-pitch softball players in Indonesia and he never got out of rookie ball. When I hear reports of guys like Espinoza now, my first reaction is still "wait, that can't be right".

All the talk about Cherington vs. Theo is kind of crazy and there's a lot of selective memory. It's probably easier to build a WS champion around a 28 year old Papi and 30 year old Manny. What they're doing now is trying to build a WS around a bunch of 22,23 year olds and a 39 year old Papi. except that Theo, you know, Signed Papi. He has a history of finding stars for relatively cheap prices. Papi, Rizzo, Arrieta.

I think we just need to wait for Mookie, Xander and Blake to become 6 WAR players. unless that never happens. I have 0 confidence in Swihart, some in Xander and only a little in Mookie
