Absolutely right call there. Great play by X. I don't know, that seemed like the definition of "inconclusive." There have been several plays this season with a clearer outcome than that, which have fallen into the "too close to overturn" territory. Xander Bogaerts: All-around great shortstop.

Showalter looked like his head was going to explode after the call reversal. I wonder why the umpires let him come out to protest the replay request as I thought that was grounds for dismissal.

Replay is so boring. I miss old baseball where they just went with what the umps called and sometimes they got together. They should only have replay in the playoffs. BTW Bogey was out. Also MLB is not gonna be happy with these umps for having overturned calls on back to back plays.

I know Mookie sat Sunday and yesterday was an off day but he needs to sit a couple and maybe have a chat with Pedroia.

Typical Sox offense.
Starter gives you 6 scoreless....you reward him with a whooping 0 runs.

I know Eck's gonna like the hair on that one. Eck still has my all-time favorite sportscast descriptive, when talking about Koji back in 2013, "punches two guys out just to stay in shape!" No better way to describe Koji that season.

So you want there to be different standards to get into the playoffs as there actually would be in the playoffs? That doesn't exactly sounds fair to me and something that probably wouldn't be agreed upon. And why wouldn't MLB be happy for them trying to and (while extremely close, looking like the throws beat the runner) getting the calls correct?

And the goal is for umps to get it right the first time. Back to back overturns, not great.

And of course the goal is for the umps to get it right the first time, but getting plays that are that close correct is literally like flipping a coin.

Brock Holt's failure to deliver a runner from third with less than two outs is huge at this point. That's just about the *first* thing a number two hitter should be able to do: make contact. I know some people love Holt, but there's a reason the guy's not an everyday player. In general, this team is terrible with its fundamentals on offense. When a guy guts out a start in which he clearly lacks his best stuff, and yet gives up zero runs in six innings, you damn well better get the win.

Jesus. Pretty poor approach there from Ortiz. Remy's right -- that stance gave him no chance to hit anything on the outer half of the plate.
