Q: What do red letters mean? Not signing? There are red letters? Who knew? Sucks to be red / green color blind. :-)

And also: whoa, hi Curll. Would also be fascinating to see something similar for international free agents, plotting signing bonus against WAR.

Is there any way to listen to the college world series games on the radio/internet? The game is on ESPN so it should also be on WatchESPN (via browser or app). That requires video streaming (not just audio), but you can just listen to the audio.

If you have an active cable subscription you can go to the watch ESPN site ( www.espn.go.com/watchespn ) and log in through your provider and actually watch the games (As noted above). Not sure on straight audio maybe try this westwoodonesports.com . Never tried the site but lists upcoming broadcasts on the right.

I was curious as to how soon Benintendi might be expected to arrive in MLB, so I looked at the debuts and rookie seasons of all college hitters drafted 4 through 10, excluding C, SS, and 2B, going back to 1995. I excluded Colin Moran, who hasn't arrived yet; J.D. Drew, who was originally drafted 2 before being drafted 5; and Ryan Zimmerman, who went 4 in a famously deep class and made it to MLB the same year.
That leaves this:
Year Pick Team Player Pos Age Debut Rook 1995 8 Col Todd Helton 1B 21 23 24 1995 9 Mil Geoff Jenkins RF 20 23 23 1996 8 Mil Chad Green CF 21 -- -- 1996 9 Fla Mark Kotsay CF 20 21 22 1998 10 Tex Carlos Pena 1B 20 23 24 2001 5 Tex Mark Teixeira 3B 21 23 23 2005 5 Mil Ryan Braun 3B 21 23 23 2006 8 Cin Drew Stubbs CF 21 24 24 2007 7 Mil Matt LaPorta 1B 22 24 24 2008 7 Cin Yonder Alonso 1B 21 23 24 2010 10 Oak Michael Choice CF 20 23 24 2011 6 Was Anthony Rendon 3B 21 23 23 Almost everyone debuted at age 23. Four guys were rookies at that age, all of them at least very good players, while the six who were rookies at age 24 include one great player, one or two very good late bloomers (depending on whether Alonso's breakout is sustained), one mild disappointment in Stubbs, and, so far, two more washouts to add to Chad Green. (Choice at least has a chance to bloom late, but after posting 835 and 839 OPS's his previous two years in AAA, he's currently at 639. If he fails to put it together, he might be the only guy to debut at age 23 and then disappoint, depending on Alonso.)
Kotsay jumped from a great AA season to MLB at age 21, then struggled for two years before breaking out.
So, you'd say that Benintendi's ETA is 2018, but there's a catch: he turns 21 in July, and guys with July birthdays usually have career paths like guys a year older. I actually think he's likely to debut in 2017, and then lose his rookie status in 2018. So he's probably on the same exact timeline as Margot. Which one plays RF?
Finally, three franchises accounted for 8 of the first 10 picks on this chart, which is certainly interesting.

Hanley will be a DH by 2018. It's possible that we could have an OF of; Mookie, Benintendi and Margot. Probably depends on how good Castillo and JBJ are doing as well. One of the draft guys compared Andrew to Kotsay on draft night. FWIW. We really don't know what we have in any of our OF prospects. I hope we get them playing time before we deal them too soon. A la Reddick. By the time Benintendi is ready, we should know what we have. Spring 2018.

I can list the bad news but I will skip it. The good news is it seems down on the farm a couple of our top pitchers have righted there ship so far. I also like the fact that the Sox woke up and shifted some talented pitchers to the pen. If this succeeds they will save money and offset some costs.
If only they could develope one power bat like if Travis could pan out at first. Do you know how that would go a long way.

Path through the minors of Benintendi's comps. Levels are listed in order of PA. () means fewer than 100 in a full season. [] means token appearance before promotion.

He'll probably be assigned to Lowell, then quickly promoted to Greenville, but I wouldn't rule out his starting with the Drive. Next year would be Salem with a likely promotion to Portland, while 2017 may well break with precedent and be Portland with a promotion to Pawtucket plus September in Boston. Or Pawtucket to start, perhaps with an earlier promotion.

Agreed. That pretty much squares with what we'd said on the podcast last Monday.

Headed to Fort Myers, FL tomorrow to get started with my professional baseball career. ⚾️✈️ That GCL squad could potentially have some interesting people on it. Washington, Allen, Espinoza if they decide to bring him stateside. Could be as interesting as last season after the draft when Chavis, Kopech joined them after Devers came over and joined Guerra there.

Kyri did it for the love of the game. I wonder what kind of game plan they have because BA sounded like after the tenth round if they are able to grab one of tough ones they would be impressed. It struck me as curious remark. They were referring ( Valentin, Washington,Jenco,Brackman) group. If I heard them correctly , I should listen again if they got Allen done they may not be able to get those guys. Personally I think BA is. Overpricing those guys. We will see. That's one thing I feel they been aggressive trying to get the tough ones done. Tony Mazz questioned the drafting but they are rated top notch plus the ones they don't sign are top picks. I don't think Tony realizes except the last two years we don't draft high at all and it's hard as hell to hit at those picks. Plus he didn't even mention the international prospects.
I think Theo's last years plus Mcloud's last couple of drafts were not at high quality. Also let's not forget the change in bonus money now. When this happened the Cubs were bottoming out so they got the top pick with the most bonus money. It is still not easy but it helps. These are things Tony Mazz never brings up and it pisses me off . I have issue with the FO but you have to be fair too when criticizing them.
