Rusconi going slot is nice. I thought he had a shot at being a bit overslot.

So by my count, with Benintendi, Rei, and Lakins left, Sox are about $268K under cap plus 5%. Would like it if they saved 300-500k on Benintendi to have a bit of cash to throw around post-10th, since I think Rei and Lakins will both get slot. No way the lakes of Brakeman or Reyes are signing, you'd think, especially with Kyri Washington probably getting a hundred grand or two over slot, but Valentin or Jenco seem attainable.

It's essentially the same as the draft page here, but uses projected bonus to (re)calculate the draft pool until there is some number in the Cap # Column. Right now, I have Benintendi at $3.1 mill (I think from Mike), Kyri Washington at $250k, Hamilton at $250k, and Valentin at $250k (but REI at $700k). That would leave us (potentially) with $300k for Brakeman. Not sure that's though, though. Also, Noviello signed very early, maybe his bonus is $100k and not $150k. Maybe Valentin or Hamilton can get done at $200k or $225k. Every little bit counts.

Probably not going to happen, but I want Brakeman.

I don't think $300K is a stretch for Brakeman. I personally don't categorize him as unattainable. He's unlikely to get more money next year, but with Stanford guys they might just want to finish school. Not saying he's going to sign, I just think it's closer to 50-50.
I think Jenco has straight up said he's not signing. Someone posted earlier in the thread.

With Brakeman having been ranked 7th in BA's top 10 Cape League prospects, ahead of Richie Martin and Kevin Newman, who went 20th and 19th, respectively, this year, he strikes me as a candidate to bounce back and at least be a second rounder, even in a better draft, if he's healthy. Plus, like you said, Stanford. Although I'd also have said that about Whitson, Beeks, and Shepherd, I guess (although SEC schools might be a different situation), so I could be way off. The use of the 16th rounder on him versus like a 25-35 range pick does signal that they have some inclination that he'll sign.

Mike......what a great article! Have a brother-in-law who got his Masters and PhD there. I always root for their athletic programs, and now even more.

Sorry about this.....................but is there a Benintendi sighting? And am I wrong that Rei is pronounced as "rye"?

Gammons had me thinking Benintendi signed and I just missed it somehow.

How is the farm system going to survive?

I wonder if they include tuition post-college career for juniors or if it's something that the team can pay for? I kinda skimmed towards the end.

I think money for college tuition is pretty much standard for juniors who sign. Coming from the team I mean. It doesn't count in the bonus either, I believe. Not 100% certain on either though. A decent number of guys take advantage too, and go back in the next fall or two to finish up.

I am figuring close to 30 prospects were gonna sign. I count about 10 not signing. I mean it could be give or take about 3 to 4.

Each year since they went to 40 rounds: 26 (+2 UDFA), 27 (+3 UDFA), 31. This year we're already at 17+1. Benintendi, Rei, and Lakins will sign, so 20+1. Watt, Washington, Noviello, and Spoon bring it to 24+1. Gotta figure Poyner signs. So 2-5 more from there?

Do UDFAs apply to the slot rules regarding > $100k? Probably doesn't matter, but might be interesting if they didn't.

Well, if the surname is Portuguese as it seems to me (Rei means king and there's decent number of Portuguese in the area he was born), then I'm afraid he is wrong. It would be more like ray, but with a rolling R, kind of like how a Scottish would say it.
