Xander looking real nice in the 3 spot with his 2 HRs, .100 ISO and .395 slg. He's actually got the 3rd highest slg and wRC+ of anyone in the lineup tonight. Who would you like to put there instead? As much as we dump on Farrell it's hard to construct a legit lineup when most of your veterans and best hitters are severely underperforming. I think we agree. I wasn't knocking the decision to put X in the 3 spot. To Farrell's credit, he's trying different things to try and get the team going. The fact that X is there shows what a crap lineup we have. The guy we were counting on to be the leadoff hitter has disappointed, the four guys who were going to constitute a fearsome middle have been disappointments and the $70 million Cuban import has contributed little.

Thanks for the reference to Higgins book. I will get it asap. Glad to hear that other old foagies are on this board. My earliest very vague memories are from the 1946WS. My whole family went to every game (except me, as I was four) but the vibes still resonate and my older brothers fill im the blanks, with pride. Watching and emulating Ted, Jensen, Piersall, Conigliaro, etc. (I was an OF) was a young man's ambition. 1967 was absolutely awesome. Like you, saw a LOT of sad teams and near misses. I am very content seeing what this ownership group has done, and support Ben in just about all his moves. We are very, very lucky. That the NYT named Boston as the top sports town in America over the past 50 years emphasizes that point. No, I am not in my rocker. Just a week ago in a slow pitch game I drilled two doubles to left and played RF. Felt good. Now, back to the game.

If we score too many runs Joe Kelly might not be able to give all of them back

Maybe the manager should pretend to put his food down more often.

This is fantastic. Still, with Kelly on the mound we can't get cocky here.

Hopefully Mookie and Ortiz keep driving the ball. Sucks to get swept, but that was good to see still yesterday. Pinch me
