8/7-8/9 Red Sox @ Tigers Series Thread

I don't know how to multi-post, so quoting this one post is in response to wcp3 saying, "no one was hyping up Hinojosa after five innings." That's the only thing the poster submitted. Notice the poster's comment, then read the tweet. How is the connection being made by the poster unclear, or that I was questioning this methodology specifically? I use the tab feature of my browser (Firefox, but Chrome, IE, and the others work the same way). Use the right right button to reply to the target post in a new tab. That leaves the tab with the thread still available. You can pick out other posts in the same fashion and "reply" to them. Cut and paste to the reply you'll make from the other "reply" which you'll discard when done. Use the BBCode view for those cut and paste operations, and you'll gradually figure out how to do the quotes. Finally, use BBCode back and forth with the Preview to get it looking right. It works well for me. Thanks, Norm. I don't know how to multi-post, so quoting this one post is in response to wcp3 saying, "no one was hyping up Hinojosa after five innings." Thanks, Jimed14. ^ I did not know this. Thanks. Thanks for your help on the other post, CH.

Koji to the DL, per PeteAbe. Machi to close. Two bullpen spots are open, and Betts to be taken off DL. Presumably, Marrero to go back to Pawtucket and two AAA relievers (Cook/Layne?) to be called up before Tuesday's game.

Good thing we didn't trade our 40-year old relief ace in a finished season though, right? Nothing could go wrong there.

I missed a great game from JBJ. This next month is huge for him. If he hits like he can, our outlook is a lot brighter. Same here! Maybe we're jinxing himI love the guy so much (A real joy to watch patrolling CF, he's the equivalent of Iglesias playing center. True, but I think the value of a CF'er turning a double or more into an out is worth more than a SS turning a single into a an out. A great defensive centerfielder may be worth more than a SS. Hard to say.

What does getting slammed in the arm with a batted ball have to do with being 40 years old? Can you explain?

He probably isn't quite ready yet but I don't think it would hurt him to get a try out.

I WOULD like to see Marban get to Pawtucket finally though and maybe a chance at Boston in a cpl years.. Late next year..

I've been traveling and basically out of touch the past two weeks ... just judging from the box scores, it looks like Bogaerts is still good, Castillo has started to look like a major league hitter, JBJ hasn't (until last night), and Henry Owens magically made MLB hitters do the exact same thing as AAA hitters so far (hit softly and walk too much).
Oh, and Larry Lucchino is gone, so is Napoli and Victorino, although Vic happened before I left, I think. In fact, I was in Hawaii, and someone running a fruit stand saw my son's Sox hat and talked about being a Sox fan because of Victorino ... had to break the bad news.

Still think he was an obvious trade candidate and there's a good chance he won't be healthy/performing next year, and it sure does suck to have Jean Machi closing out games at the end of this season, but this injury was a fluke.

Presumably, Marrero to go back to Pawtucket and two AAA relievers (Cook/Layne?) to be called up before Tuesday's game. Layne has the 3rd best ERA-, the 3rd best SIERA, and the second best WPA of all the guys who have spent a substantial time in the pen. Sending him down in the first place was mysterious. Since Tazawa has been amazingly un-clutch, he's basically been our second-best reliever. And how much does that say? Cook, BTW, in 8 games since 7/16 in AAA: 8 5 0 0 2 10, IBB, HB, .167 / .242 / .167 allowed. I think your guess has to be right.

But it does give the guy a break, and a chance to see what the other relievers can bring to the table. There's a lot of variability for relief pitchers, and Machi has been effective in the past. His stuff looks usable, and he knows how to locate it. Let's see what happens.

Scott Lauber @scottlauber 9s9 seconds ago Upon further review, Koji Uehara has a non-displaced distal fracture of right wrist. Will miss rest of season, #RedSox announce

Will miss rest of season, #RedSox announce I'm going to view this as a win-win-win. Better chance for a top five pick. No more innings on Koji's arm this season. Forces the team to assess their scrum of bullpen arms in the last 50 games. The only downside is that the Red Sox cannot trade Koji until the offseason, if they are so inclined (which I do not believe they are).

Shutting E-Rod down because of an innings limit should help secure a higher pick too.

True, but I think the value of a CF'er turning a double or more into an out is worth more than a SS turning a single into a an out. That's pretty obvious but you have to consider that there are more opportunities for the latter than the former.

Shutting E-Rod down because of an innings limit should help secure a higher pick too. He pitched 145 IP in 2013 and 120 IP in 2014. My guess they'll let him go another 30-40 IP comfortably, and then monitor him to go another 10-15 IP after that (he's at 121.2 IP now). Owens should be good for the rest of the year. He pitched 159 IP last year and is at 132.1 IP now. With the deeper September rosters, they should be able to manage around Rodriguez, if need be, for a couple of starts.

Neither Cook nor Layne are listed on the lineup as being available out of the Pawsox bullpen tonight, so my guess is that my guess was correct.
