How sweet it is to see actual game action and not talk about DeflateGate.
Been a little bit one sided so far in the first quarter. Tough field position for the Pats. I've been impressed with the D, in typical bend don't break Belichickian style. I am very intrigued with the D-Line, Brown and Easley look like a nice duo in the middle, especially long term. I think Jones, Nink, and Sheard are going to wreak a lot of havoc. Lastly, Malcolm Butler looks like the real deal.
Let's go Patriots!!!! REPEAT!!!!

Lastly, Malcolm Butler looks like the real deal. Just too bad that you need at least 2 cornerbacks.

Lastly, Malcolm Butler looks like the real deal. Just too bad that you need at least 2 cornerbacks. This is certainly true. Hopefully Logan Ryan can make some strides. He was a good looking rookie a few years back. I'm also interested to see if Bradley Fletcher can revert back to his better days.

If Bradley Fletcher is a decent cb this year, it will be BB's biggest achievement. Even greater than making Patrick Chung a decent safety last year?

Winning SB's with Earthwind Moreland, Randall Gay, Otis "my man!" Smith as starting CB's wasn't bad.

Pats sign Reggie Wayne.
Can't wait to see how the Colts complain to the league about this one.

Really couldn't care much less about Pre-season action. But wow the 1st string offense has been abysmal. Obviously Brady doesn't have any of his security blankets (Gronk, Edelman, even LaFell). But yikes.

I suppose this could a) be in the Offseason Thread and b) be a poll but I'm going this route:
Is there a surprise move coming up for the Pats? It seems we see them all the time (Milloy released; Seymour traded; Mankins traded) right before the season is about to begin. Will we get another 1 prior to kickoff?
Here are some possibilities based on rumors and/or speculation by "experts" (mostly the latter):
1. Aaron Dobson released and Kenbrell Thompson signed - The first part wouldn't really be a surprise (though LaFell's availablity has put him on most of the recent roster projections) but what about a Thompson reunion? Brady loved him and he had a lot bigger moments than Dobson (not saying a lot). With the depth at WR a concern, I see this as a very reasonable possibility
2. Logan Ryan cut - Like Dobson, he's not really taking advantage of an obvious oppurtunity. Like Dobson, he's a 2013 draft pick. Unlike Dobson, he's actually received legitimate playing time. The surprise of this move would likely be tied to the fact that a) it means Fletcher and McClain both make the team for sure or b) Bill brings in another CB via trade or from the final cut list.
3. Nate Solder traded - First a confession. I heard about Adam Hart's suggestion that this wouldn't be crazy and that really is what sparked this post. Anyway, his suggestion is based on the "depth" they have at T (Vollmer could move over to LT and either Cannon or Fleming could step in at RT). I put that in quotes bc "depth" assumes that the latter could handle a starting gig at RT. Cannon WAS given a starter-like contract. Solder is a pending Free Agent who will want legit LT money (read: a LOT). A would save the team $7M (which they could use for extensions on other players that I"m sure they'd love to keep around) and leave $0 in Dead Money. I see Hart's reason for this and, while I wouldn't predict it, it wouldn't shock me at all.
4. Fred Jackson signed - BB loves him, so maybe that shouldn't be a surprise but it would also come with letting loose at least 1 of White (recent draft pick), Cadet (FA signing who was the original leading candidate to replace Shane Vereen) or Lewis (who may have had the best pre-season out of the 3).
5. Other - is there another surprise move that I'm not thinking of that is a legitimate possibility? Would bringing Matt Cassel back if Brady loses be a surprise?
Maybe it was a stretch to include some of these as surprises and my attempt to force a Solder discussion becomes transparent. Maybe so. But done talking about the footballs and waiting for a decision. And I'm always interested in "what will BB do next?" as it relates to the final cutdown.
I have never been more ready for the season to start . . .

Just not sure the D will keep up. What a great day. I love the statement made by Berman too. Basically calling out the NFL for the smear campaign and the comparisons to PED use.

He wins in court, but not the court of public opinion. Doesn't change anything for me, I think he knew about it and didn't cop to it ot protect his legacy.

There's no firm evidence that the footballs were actually deflated. WHY IS THIS FACT GETTING OVERLOOKED? The arbitrator - through the CBA - found enough evidence to suspend him. The judge overruled the arbitrator because of the process. It's the same thing with baseball and the steroids, some suspensions occured without direct evidence. An impartial observer might point out that he destroyed potential evidence on his phone. Look, people around here are going to go to bat for him, that's fine....but it's silly to think that everyone who isn't a Brady homer is wrong.

Read the rest of Bermans explanation. He states that Pash not being available to Brady's team was with holding, seeing as how Pash had editorial input into the Wells report.
Not to mention what WCP said, the actual evidence about the footballs, the fact that Indy also ha footballs below the threshold.

The phone stuff was shady, as is the deflator text. There's enough there to think something strange was happening.
But, again, the supposed cheating that occurred is that footballs were deflated below the legal limit ... yet there's zero evidence the balls were actually deflated. In fact, if we go with the measurements from the gauge the ref remembers using, all the footballs were within the limits of the Ideal Gas Law.
That doesn't mean something weird didn't go on, but it makes me ask: what are we even talking about here?
Also, comparing this to steroid use is preposterous.

Right. Frankly, if the investigation had been carried out in a way that wasn't a complete joke, I could've seen suspending Brady for a game or something.
Kraft must be kicking himself for accepting the draft pick penalty, although that was a different question.

So, for the lawyers on here: do you think a defamation lawsuit would be a slam dunk win for Brady and the Pats?

Kraft must be kicking himself for accepting the draft pick penalty, although that was a different question. I think that Kraft had no recourse essentially. Outside of suing the league anyways. All he could have done was appeal. But team appeals go to Goddell. So the punishments would've stayed the same. Thats what happened with sean payton in bounty gate. He appealed his suspension, which was heard and obviously upgeld by goodell
