3 Ks early is nice to see. Always liked Barnes as a starter, would love to see him make the most of this opportunity. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up as a solid back-end starter who can be optioned next year, which is something they could greatly use.
(and two more while I was typing that... maybe I should actually turn on the game)

Speier in the booth is so refreshing. They need to expand on his role.

Travis Shaw - somewhere between Brandon Moss and Anthony Rizzo. I'm calling it.
Edit - he now has 5 HR in 60 PA in MLB and 5 HR in 322 PA in AAA. And I don't think any of them were cheap. That last one was probably over 430'.

Good for Shaw making the most of his chance.

They need to come up with a new stat based on xFIP which includes an adjustment for pitching with Hanley in LF.

I'm indifference from everyone about Matt Barnes's progress. I didn't see any hope from him as reliever nor starter. He stinks no matter what. Let him being ex-Red Sox soon.

That's why literally anyone else should be in LF They need to auction him off ASAP. Take the best offer and eat as much salary as it takes to do it. They just can't go into next year trying to plug him into some position unless they want to sacrifice another season.

After a young pitcher in his first ML start throws 36 pitches in one inning, you should have someone warming up when he starts the next inning.

He's also likely to miss more time and lose more speed with another year gone by. Sox will have to blow by the salary cap to have a chance next year, so dump him.

The Ghosts of xFIP are lurking and looking to spook someone in a moments notice. I don't agree here though, we need to try and develop guy with mid 90's fastballs as best as we can. We don't have a lot of those guys in the system.

I was away from the computer when Hanley did whatever he did, or didn't do, but the guys on the radio were really ripping him up a couple of minutes ago.

Too bad he's not like Xander or Wade Boggs or Mookie or Holt or JBJ and actually cared enough to be a better fielder. I swear, most of what it takes to become better in the field is practice. Earn your damn paycheck Hanley and at least try.

Earn your damn paycheck Hanley and at least try. This. 100%, and while most of the blame should be on Hanley, leadership needs to take some as well. You can't just let players not care, whether it be coaches or even teammates. I defended him early in the season thinking an athlete at his level would just need some time to adjust to a new position, but it's clear as day that he hasn't given any effort to trying to better himself out there. Very disappointing. You wonder if the team was contending whether the effort would've been better, or the criticism from leadership would've more apparent to guilt trip him into putting in the work.
