It's not like playing Panda and Hanley to win. That is a failed formula. Although losing has considerable draft benefits for the future, the greater future benefit would be winning some more games with Mookie, JBJ, Rusney in the OF daily, with Shaw getting reps at 1B and 3B, giving repeated relief opportunities to Aro, NRamirez, etc.
This attitude, in August 2015, that we need the veterans seems counter-productive., even to the veterans themselves. Besides, Papi, Pedey, Koji, Hanni, Buch, ADA, Macbi is plenty of upbeat baseball savvy for the dynamic new iteratiion of this team.

I'd go with Shaw over Hanley at 1B. I meant for next year. Switching Hanley to first now is too far even for me. Where else do you put Hanley next year? He is owed 60 milion plus over the next three years. He is still a good hitter. Might as well try him at first next year. If he is bad still defensively, then he can be our new DH when Ortiz retires. I meant next year too. Did you realize that Hanley's walk rate is lower than Pablo's? He has a 101 wRC+. I'm sure he'll bounce back, but as a 2nd DH playing the field, it would have to be a huge, huge bounce back.

Regardless of how well he fields, he also gets hurt doing everything, even just swinging without contact being made. You could make the case for a 3 man 1B/3B crew wth Hanley, Pablo and Shaw. Between injuries and potential huge slumps there will like never be more than 2 of those guys ready to play every day.

Apparently the Umps made up for the first pitch to him ... it was way outside for a strike.

Butterfield's son must be a 1-1 candidate for the draft next year.

Ortiz is just killing it. He's gone unconscious - again.

I'm likely in the minority, but I'm glad E-Rod got left in to tough his way through the 8th inning. Kid's gonna be an ace, might as well start training him for it.

Pitch Eduardo in night games only and he'll win the Cy Young.

Now trading Shaw, Castillo, Swihart for Hamels. New philosophy.

I would think all teams want their starters to be geared to go at least 7 innings in today's climate. I like "good EROD". Me not like "bad EROD". Thankfully we get more of the former.

Rodriguez needed last night for some confidence. His fastball was making his changeup play way up last night. The change was filthy and induced at ton of GBs. I hope he goes on a bit of a tear from here on out.
