I've gotten into a habit of checking the weather for Espinoza starts. Not supposed to rain until after 4 pm today.

Dang; I could see Benintendi, Moncada et al in Greensboro NC today at 7 p.m. (an hour's drive), but there is a 90% chance of rain, possibly with typical Southern thunder and lightning. The forecast is only a little better for Wednesday, when they are scheduled for 4 p.m.

Hahaha ... Espinoza so far: 3 perfect innings, 6Ks, 3GOs. Four of the Ks were swinging.

Espinoza delivering a monumental stinker so far today:
3IP, no baserunners, 6 K. I mean, it's the Rays...his K rate should be at least 75%.

Espy needs a bus ticket to Greenville.

Espy needs a bus ticket to Greenville. So he can face Benintendi in simulated games so either of them are challenged. But it might create a space/time rift.

Yeah, but can go 5 innings for once?
Seriously, the guy needs a challenge. Lowell or Greenville, tout de suit

Remember last July 2, before Moncada, when we were all complaining about how they went over the cap just for 2 pitchers?

Espinoza might not go to Lowell this year, but he ain't going there next year either.

He's done after 4. And he should be done with the GCL. Let's see.

Please tell me not to think that Espinoza is the best of all of our prospects in the last 5 years. I'm more excited about him than Betts and Bogaerts. He's already #1 for me currently.

By late spring 2016 we will be complaining that he's not pitching in Salem yet.

No way I'm getting that excited. He's very good and all, but I'm not sure I give up Betts or Bogaerts for Urias, who's farther along and probably a best case scenario for Espinoza. Have to wait until pitchers hit the upper levels of the minors to get too excited IMO.

It would be nice to see him start a couple of games this year in Greenville. I agree he will not be in Lowell next year. He will be in full season ball for sure. But, once again, it would be great for his comfort and progression to be promoted to where he will almost certainly start next season.

4IP 1H 0ER 0BB 7K (the one hit was an infield single) "Joseph Astacio singles on a bunt ground ball to third baseman Roldani Baldwin." Boooooo! Bunt single ... he was promptly erased on a double-play, then the next batter struck out. So 4 innings, 7Ks, nothing left the infield. As for "better than Bogaerts or Betts," Xander was the #2 prospect in baseball, and if Mookie hadn't rocketed to the majors so quickly, he maybe would've been in the top 5, as well. Hard to rank a GCL pitcher above that, no matter how good he looks right now.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that Espinoza's ceiling is higher than any Red Sox prospect in quite a long, long time. That's reflected in the rankings too, as he's the only one with that 8.
