Ugh, now I remember why I took 5 years off from watching the NBA... If you can't beat 'em....form a superteam.

Didn't think he had the stones to do it. Good for him.

I hope Ainge maxes Wade just for the heck of it.

The Warriors will now need to trade Bogut. For one year and $11m, I'd be happy to take that if I were the Celtics. Shaun Livington (one year, $5.8m) is in the same boat, but Boston already has too many backcourt players, so the fit doesn't work as well. With so many teams with extra cap space, the Warriors might be able to get a sweetener or two in return, but the Celtics have enough second-round picks and young players who aren't going to get enough playing time (Rozier, Young, Mickey, Hunter) to make it work.

I just realized that this likely means Westbrook is trade available. Ainge still has a shot to mess with the Thunder and I'd rather have Westbrook than Durant anyway.

Shocked that a superstar like Durant would join a team that was already great. He really cares more about winning than his legacy. For me this is way worse than James going to Miami. At least in Miami James was the man. Durant's legacy is now that of Scotty Pippen.

Situations like this reveal a lot about character. In this case Durant seems to be saying he wants the short road/best chance to a ring and then we'll see. That's fine, but if he thinks that he can jump to the Celts as the team leader in a year and play with his good friend he may find that that lost year while the C's young core develops has robbed him of that opportunity and perception. One has to question whether he has the leadership drive and ability of Larry Bird whose game he claims to have admired so much.

Warriors will trade Bogut to Mavs and they will keep Livington. Will be interesting to see who they get to play Center, as they will lose top 3 centers from last year.

No longer a Durant fan, and the NBA just got a lot less interesting.
Do you think these guys give a damn if their "superteams" damage the league?

The Warriors depth is going to be gone other than vets signing on to catch a ring. It will be interesting to see what happens... I seriously question how Curry will age with his ankle issues and Durant has had his foot problems and that's never good for a 6'9 guy but they are going to be great in the mean time.

Thomas, Brown, Yabusele, Hunter, the 2018 Brooklyn pick and the Memphis and LAC 1sts for Westbrook.
Any chance?

No longer a Durant fan, and the NBA just got a lot less interesting. Do you think these guys give a damn if their "superteams" damage the league? I don't understand this. These guys are forming super teams because they're allowed to, instead of playing in an era where super teams were formed for them due to lack of real free agency and the rampant stupidity of some owners, which led to a defending champion ending up with the first overall pick in one particular draft. It's not like we had parity back then, remember how the Lakers went to the Finals 8 times in the 80s? That was less damaging to the league? Of course this makes the Warriors favorites to winning the title, but how is that bad? You get a 73 wins team that's royally pissed off about choking away the Finals last year after winning it the year prior that just upgraded from Harrison freaking Barnes to Kevin Durant. That's Schwarzenegger in Predator levels of awesomeness.

The last thing we should be doing right now is trading our best assets for a one year rental.

It wasn't the league's best players getting together so they could cakewalk to championships. When Lebron formed his team in Miami and said "not 5, not 6, not 7..." it was because he thought himself and his buddies were going to destroy the league year in and year out for years. That he got 'only' two titles and 2 finals losses was actually an underperforming of what those guys intended. Now, Durant, one of the 3-4 best players in the league, is joining a 73 win team. That's not about trying to compete for titles. It's about trying to annihilate even other team and actively destroy the competitive balance leagues need to survive. But hey, as long as he gets his it's all OK.

The Celtics need to not make any more moves. Adding the rookies and Horford is a good offseason. They lose Turner but I think Brown and Rosier can fill those minutes. Horford is a big upgrade over Sullinger (he will actually hit the jump shots). Keep the cap space for next year and the nets picks. Can't be cashing in chips yet for one player. Durant is going to opt out next year and GS may not be what he expected so all hope isn't lost there. It's what we would say had he resigned with OKC...
Westbrook is a free agent too as are some other quality players.
Horford was a huge add. Hold the course - develop and keep your flexibility.

By the way.... I said Horford replaces Sully, but I bet he doesn't get a good enough contract offer to take so he's back here on a one year deal.

But hey, as long as he gets his it's all OK. Sometimes superstar players underestimate making a complete team and how players fit. Maybe Warriors are better, maybe not. They are losing top 3 centers, back up PF, Barnes and a bunch more role players. Team depth could be a big problem for Warriors. Do they have enough shots to go around? On paper they looked improved from 73 win team, but I don't see them winning 73 or more games next year.

But that really doesn't have anything to do with what I was saying. I was saying his INTENTION is to smash the rest of the league. He isn't signing with Golden St thinking "Boy, this is going to be a huge challenge. I don't know if we can make this work". He's going there thinking he just won a title by putting his name on that contract.

I don't think he gets a good enough offer to turn down being unrestricted next offseason. Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't he become unrestricted next year or can we still give him a QO? I think his off court stuff, weight and back keep his value waaaay down in comparison to his production but perhaps not. If you can play off his injuries and get him to sign for 3/36, so he gets his financial security, then I think that's something I'd do. If not, I say bye bye if he gets a better offer sheet.

He would be unrestricted next year. Once Celtics pick up non guaranteed contracts, cap space is gone. So I would think Sully offers will start heating up on or after July 7th. From Sully point of view would you really have a better season backing up Horford and Johnson than you had last season starting? Because Johnson fits next to Horford better than Sully . Horford and Sullinger are best at Center in my opinion. So I would assume Sullinger will take best offer this offseason. I think Sullinger is gone at this point, but I really hope I am wrong.
