If the boys can go 4-2 over the next 6 games that will get us 45 wins at the halfway point, and on our way to 90 wins....which should be very competitive. It would feel like an empty 45 wins with all the starting pitiching problems, but I would consider it a decent milestone.

Eduardo looked pretty good last time out. The Rays are playin awfully lately. Hope this is another step toward being who he was for a good part of last year.

The White Sox were also playing horribly when we got them AT HOME. I still have confidence in the boys to turn this around. There are a few good teams that are playing bad baseball recently, specifically the Nats and Cubs.

I know Moore and Archer aren't pitching well this year, but that is a really terrifying trio of pitchers.
On the bright side, facing that putrid Tampa Bay lineup is a nice reprieve, especially with Pierce, Guyer, Kiermeier, and Souza all out.

I hate facing teams on a long losing streak 'cause you know it's going to stop at a some point.

Adjusting for SoS, the Sox still have the 4th best set of hitting and pitching stats in MLB, after the Cubs, Cardinals, and Nationals (a month ago they were second to the Cubs). They've managed to turn that into a tie for 13th in winning percentage. It's .614 vs. .533.
A lot of the panic comes from judging them by the W/L record rather than the underlying performance, which is much more predictive. If you project the rest of the season using a 90 / 10 split between the two rates, they finish 4 games ahead of the O's, against a neutral schedule. They have a 13 game lead on the Mariners for the second W/C spot, using the same projection; however, the Mariners will end up with a schedule 2 or 3 games easier.
Whether the managerial difference will wipe out the 4 game expected edge they have on the O's is a good question. One counter would be continued better pitching from the #4 spot in the rotation from E-Rod.

Curious that Bogaerts didn't get an off day today after essentially begging for one after yesterday's game.

Would be nice to see the team start the second inning without being in a hole. Hardly seems possible during the current down streak.

All Red Sox pitchers need to spend more time warming up before games. These 1st inning crap jobs is demoralizing.

This is all well and good and thanks for the positive vibe....but unless we get better starting pitching from the folks in the rotation....nothing is gonna help us. I don't know why anyone should need to dissect it any further.

Shame, another year of control on Betts and Xander will yield squat. Yes that's an over reaction in a game day thread. Didin't post yesterday because the game day thread was a jim ed blog.
