I've gotta say, I've been excited about Mookie since they drafted him. I saw that fat bonus in the fifth round, and thought they must've seen *something* special. I was bummed when he moved off of short, but I was a believer pretty early on when he was stinging the ball in Greenville and racking up a ton of walks. I got a little nervous with his so-so AFL performance, but I nearly lost my marbles with his start in Portland the next year. But I never thought he'd be *this* good. Maybe hoped, but never believed. Wow.

Dang it...that was sloppy defense by Leon, on the 3rd strike...
...as underscored by Lyons, better approach on 3rd strike to Lind.

Gutless. Sandy Leon is embarrassing. Worst catcher in the league. sad! (sarcasm meter on)

It looked like Lovullo was calling the shots there.

Big win. Great start by EROD. Big couple outs for Ross. Sox showing a lot of resolve past couple days.

It looked like Lovullo was calling the shots there. It really did, that was kind of odd. I hadn't really noticed that before

Thats why having all different types of ballparks is so awesome. That Homerun by Marcus Betts would have been a single at Fenway.

The Sox could extend Betts & Bogaerts tomorrow and I don't think I could get upset no matter what the $ cost was

Wow. Let's not get carried away. He's on a pace for an 8.3 bWAR season (before tonight), which would give him 16.4 through age 23. That's been done before! (Both a season and a total that good or better by age 23.) Ty Cobb, Eddie Collins, Rogers Hornsby, Arky Vaughan, Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Eddie Matthews, Mickey Mantle, Cal Ripken, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, and Bryce Harper have all topped that, some by a wide margin. That's 14 whole guys. What he's doing is hardly unprecedented.
Edit 2: Willie Mays would have done it pretty easily if it weren't for his military service.
Edit: Manny Machado is on pace for a career-best 7.4 bWAR, which would give him the 14th most bWAR by age 23 . But he's not had a season as good as this one by Marcus Lynn.

He takes a lot of heat on the board for the times when he struggles and he takes heat for the guys they gave up for him, but Craig Kimbrel gets some sincere props from at lease one person on Sox prospects tonight for coming back so quick from knee surgery.

I struggle to believe the power stays consistent, but a .350/.420/.550 line really wouldn't surprise me. I wouldn't bet on it, but then again, I'm not sure if bet against it, either. This season looks a lot like Nomar's rookie year.

Make that two. Not the lock-down guy I'd hoped they were getting, but his return *really* helps. I still believe we've yet to see this staff have its best stretch of the year. Hopefully, it's for three weeks in October.

Just back from the game. Fantastic pitching duel, both really on their game. Rodriguez looks to be just about all the way back, and if Paxton can ever stay healthy he's one of the best lefties in the league, his stuff, sequencing, command, control, and mechanics are so good. He started to labor in the eighth, missing his spots and he paid for it on the mistake to Hill bit he deserved better.
I think Ross is really coming on as a reliever. Aside from velocity and movement, he has a presence on the mound, almost daring batters to get a hit.
Betts' bat speed and hand-eye coordination are just unreal. He turns around anything on the inner half, just crushing balls. I mentioned out loud to my friends and anyone within earshot that Cishek might try to sneak something in there and end up paying for it. No sooner had I finished saying that, the ball was gone. This is a great, great player that anyone would pay to see.

The best thing about tonight was that Eduardo Rodriguez was hitting 98 on the gun tonight.
Safw to say, Eduardo of last year is finally back.

Big James Paxton fan here, would have loved to buy low on him prior to the season but of course that's way off the cards now. Nope, reverse jinx still doesn't work. Forget it, guys.

Ohh and when Abad is added to this roster, I hope Brentz is the one who goes packing.
With Holt, the Sox can carry a three man bench. I'd rather see Benintendi platoon with Holt since Holt has traditionally been a reverse split guy anyways in his career.
No more Brentz. He's not versatile, he can't make contact, and he's a poor defender. No value with him on the roster imo.

On that last one: If Holt becomes the super-utility guy again, there's no more excuses to have Martinez in the roster.
