They made a calculated decision that they were a year away from making real noise, and it turns out they were 100% right.
I don't expect that same level of patience this offseason and next season. But this year, it was the right play.

I am just having trouble seeing a path to a championship roster that included trading those Nets picks. Let's say the Celtics traded this years pick and Crowder for Butler this deadline. That team is not beating the Cavs this year, they also can't sign a max free agent or add a high pick this year so what do they do next year and going forward? "Oh cool we are an even better second best team in the East that's not even close to beating Cleveland"

I never said it was Danny's last shot. I simply pointed out how the Jazz and Celtics looked at this season differently and took different paths. You tried saying they didn't, when they clearly did. Remember I said Danny's best pitch to Hayward is he's willing to make those moves if Hayward signs. I guess I'm just thinking you can't compare what one team did vs the other bc they were in entirely different situations. If I'm correctly following the line of thinking, you're suggesting that the difference in action suggests a difference in organizational philosophy (and the C's philosophy could hurt them). I'm suggesting that it's more a difference in circumstances. If the sides were switched, would each team act as the other did? Yes exactly it's about the different team philosophy from a players point of view, mainly in regards to Hayward. That's such a hard question, I'm not really sure. They only time Danny has traded assets that didn't make us a true title contender was for Thomas. It was just too good of a value to turn down. I don't look at the Jazz trade that way. It wasn't a bad trade, but it wasn't a slam dunk trade either. I remember with Pierce if he couldn't have made the Allen and KG deals he was going to trade him. Now Utah is different they have Gobert signed long-term. I really don't know, it's almost impossible to predict what Danny will do. I will say this though, 95% of the GMs in the game would make win now moves if they were GM of the Celtics. Again not saying Danny is wrong, just he is taking a very different path compared to what other teams would do. Very few GMs have the trust and job security to do what Danny is doing.

Just 2 last points:
1. Few, if any, GMs have ever been in this situation so it's impossible for even the most inside of insiders to say what others would do.
2. That you are using the idea that you know what even 1 GM is thinking, let alone "95%", probably means we've reached the end of this debate (for me, anyway).

I, for one, am interested to see how they look without IT. It's a good chance to see what they might look like against good competition if they move on from him.

Based on the sameple sizes we have so far, they'll probably struggle to score 80. But a future team without IT would likely have Fultz and a more experienced Jaylen, so I'm not sure what we can take away from the next two nights.

There's rumors that Paul George wants to team up with his former team-mate in Hayward. Take that with a grain of salt however.

If they can lose a game 90-80, I would say that is a positive step. Hell, keeping the Cavs under 110 points would be a positive at this point. Fultz may not be a stud defensively, but he should be an upgrade defensively over IT, and should be able to still put up points (though a likely downgrade offensive, at least for a year or two). I hope Jaylen gets more action.

That's most likely the last high point of the season, but it sure was a good one. I love that Bradley's shot rolled around just long enough to take any chance way for Cleveland to get a last shot.

I honestly forgot that there was a game last night. Have been kind of disinterested since Isaah went down. Although from afar I can probably point out that this was the biggest win or second biggest win of the postseason.
You just showed to the entire basketball world that you beat a super team in the playoffs filled with all-stars and you did it without your best player arguably. You're the only non Golden State (most likely) team to accomplish this feat.
Free agents could take notice to that.

Maybe... LeBron was a no show... they were still up over 20 in the third and then went ice cold. Marcus Smart had an unbelievable game which was great to see. I really home the Celtics go the long term route with the Nets picks but figuring out who to keep out of Isaiah, Bradley and Smart is an amazing and agonizing story line to follow.
As long as Danny Keeps Jaylen, Drafts Fultz and hangs onto the 2018 Nets pick I will be satisfied with his approach.

Everything rjp313jr said, plus signing Hayward - I think this is the only chance they will have to sign a max free agent for a long time, and they should take it.

There's little doubt they will go after Hayward, the hard part is getting him to sign here.
I have no problem keeping certain assets, but Danny will need to start trading lesser assets to try and win now. I'm sure that's what a player like Hayward is going to want to hear to leave Utah. Now I'm not saying they need to get elite players, but they need to get a rebounding defensive big that can help them next year. If I was Haywards agent that's what I would want from Danny. Assurances that he will make win now moves if Hayward signs. Not just wait years while Brown, Fultz and the other Nets pick develop.

Ainge traded all assets to win a title in 2008, and he tried to trade a HOFer (Ray) multiple times to try to win a second one.
I think most people around the league know he's willing to make win-now moves when it makes sense, so this whole narrative is kinda silly.

You know what happens when GMs listen to agents and players? You get Cleveland before LeBron left.
