The reports say Glennon turned down more than 7 million. If I had to guess I say he gets 10-12 million a year from Bears. It won't be a horrible deal if they limit the guaranteed money. It does take away another bidder though.
Still think Jimmy gets traded for 2 second round picks.

I don't know what they will do because I have no way to know what their evaluation is of him. What I do Think is that Bill looks at the QB position differently than any other position on the field so he's not going to just trade in for some value the same way he would another position on the field.
Part of me doesn't see the point in trading him for 2 second round picks tho. There's next to no chance of you not being able to franchise him and trade him for at least one second next year so why would you deal him for 2 seconds this year? The only answer that makes sense in my mind to That question is that you don't think he's that good. Because if you do, then you hold him for insurance on your 40 year old QB.

I love Jimmy, has nothing to do with him not being good. I do it because you get double the return, maybe more. Not sure it's a given that Jimmy on Tag gets you second round pick. That's a lot of money for teams. Even if he does, does he get you a high one like you get this year from Brown's, Bears or 49ers?
It all comes down to getting best return for Jimmy, because I don't worry about Brady's health. I want to surround Brady will all the talent we can to try and win a few more titles before he retires.

According to NFL.Com's Mike Garafolo, it will take 1st rd pick this year AND 1st round pick next year to get JG.
Gotta be posturing (or a we're not trading him unless you make it impossible for us to say no).

Michael Giardi @mikegiardi
Multiple NFL sources believe Duron Harmon will command between 5 to 6 million per season. That would put him mid-market for that position
I'd pay him that.

I hate reports like that, even if it's true. Early, mid or late first round picks? There is a massive difference. If you really had sources that could tell you what Pat's want, why can't you get more details.
At least with Cooks trade rumors we know they want a mid first round pick.
I've never seen so much information coming from Pat's. I call BS that all these reports have sources from Pat's. A lot of this has to be from other teams that have talked with Pat's. Maybe Texans called up and Pat's said two first round picks if you want Jimmy. That's a lot different than demanding two first round picks from Brown's, Bears, or 49ers.

I don't see it, that's way too much and the reason I thought he was gone after season ended. Why do you think they should pay him that much? That's starter money.

Because he plays over 50% of the snaps, he's good and his ability to play the free safety position allows the coaches a lot of scheme flexibility. The money isn't steep and they like to have a lot of these types of players versus high end paid guys. The third safety in their system is important.

In a world where this is true (and I agree on the BS level here), it could be NE telling teams that the price to get him now is the price it would be if we franchise him next year. In that scenario, the report (even lacking detail) COULD be in line with reality.

The money isn't steep and they like to have a lot of these types of players versus high end paid guys. The third safety in their system is important. For the Patriots paying 5-6 million on a most likely 3-5 year deal for a part time player is steep. Another team sees him as a starter, Patriots don't. I know the cap has gone up, but thats a lot for a part-time player unless you see his role increasing down the road. I'd much rather take that money and pay Butler and/or Ryan.

Football is made up of scheme specific and package specific players. As a fifth, defensive back I think it's reasonable money depending on how it's structured.
I don't think it precludes them from signing the other mentioned players either, but yea I'd rather give Ryan 9 than Harmon 6.

If you got good information from Patriots you would know exactly what they want. I find that unlikely, they keep information like that secret. Information from other teams could be just the starting point of trade talk. If you really want X in trade you usually ask for something higher than X to begin with. So information from other teams is really incomplete unless you know more. Is that just the first offer or is that a take it or leave it offer? We don't know that.

If Harmon is getting 6 million, Ryan is getting 10-12 million most likely.
A guy that is a cap expert just predicted Hightower gets 5 years 67 million with like 38 million guaranteed. If that's true the market is going to be very high this year. That's a ton.

Ryan getting 12m would be laughable.

Per Mary Kay Cabot the Browns would love to trade the 12th pick for Garoppolo

Revising my thoughts on Peterson-- if he's willing to take, say, $3-4M per year on a short-term deal, the Patriots might be a fit. His lack of versatility (bad pass-catcher/pass protector, lack of formation versatility (doesn't run out of shotgun or line up out wide)) and age/injury concerns are still issues, but Blount has many of the same concerns, and they managed to make it work with him. But the Patriots still won't pay much for a one-dimensional running back, so it really comes down to Peterson's market (which I increasingly think might be a little flat) and his willingness to take less money.

I'd be shocked if the Patriots gave him that much money. Look at their history of paying running backs.

Eh, $3-4M per year on a one- or two-year deal isn't that much at all. They've certain paid veteran running backs at that level in the past, especially once you adjust for inflation. Think Sammy Morris (4/$7M back in 2007) or Fred Taylor (2/$8M in 2009).

Yea maybe you are right; I'm gonna stay out of the Peterson discussion because I really can't get past what he did and how it's so down played. The kid was 4.

49er are going to pay 30 year old WR Garcon 16 million next year. But what is the rest of the contract? The report I saw just said he's going to receive 16m next year. Could be a 3 year 30m deal with 16m paid out in year 1 when they have a ton of cap room. It's not the same as getting 16m per year.

Never said it was per year. It really doesn't matter because I see him as a 2 year 16 million or 3 years 24 million type player. Marshall just got 2 years 12 million. Its almost unheard of to pay over 50% of contract in year one, so I would guess it's a lot more than 3 years and 30 million.
