I missed this but Lakins apparently has another significant elbow injury. Feel bad for the kid Turned out to be another stress fracture in his elbow. No bueno Yikes. That's NOT good. Just gotta wonder if his arm just can't hold up to pitching. Brutal.

I read a Buster Olney article that said Craig Kimbrel is likely to be traded but not to the Sox. No kidding.
But he does go on to say that it's likely Kimbrel winds up being dealt to the AL West with either the Astros or A's most likely to acquire him.
When the Sox get to October there's a reasonable chance they either run into Oakland or Houston or both.
Imagine the irony of facing Kimbrel late in the game. He is certainly pitching better now than he did in 2018.

To have the arm talent to pitch in the bigs while having bones that cannot physically withstand the stress of doing it is some serious Ancient Greece/Tantalus energy

Hembree got his 4th save for the Reds. His numbers are actually really good… except he’s given up 8 HRs in 28 innings. He could easily be a deadline piece again that gets a decent return.

That's a rather large "except," eh? It is, but it makes his other numbers seem so strange. 28 innings, 19 hits… 8 of them dingers. 47 Ks. Weird.

FWIW, Hembree is getting save opps because Lucas Sims and Tejay Antone both went on the IL at the end of June, Michael Lorenzen has been out all year, and Sean Doolittle has completely lost his mojo. They have a committee that also includes Amir Garrett and Brad Brach.

I looked it up and he’s actually having a great year in AA in ~60 AB’s. I wonder if he has a deal lined up somewhere in Asia or something

He's 27 and a part-time player. He played a bunch in the middle of May, but since then has played like once a week.

That's a bit surprising. He's not a big strikeout guy, but he's been OK at the major league level and he has 5-6 more years of control. It's his final option year and he takes up a 40-spot, but seems like the type of guy who could have fetched a solid prospect in past years. I wonder if 'players for cash' will be more common this trade deadline or if the Blue Jays simply weren't interested in keeping him at all (he was DFAd over the weekend). Maybe they just had to open the 40-man spot for another trade?

That'd be on pace to hit 78 home runs if he got 550 ABs which is somewhat standard for nowadays for a player who plays 150 games or so. If my math is correct anyway.

Maybe I’m a homer but I don’t think anybody else has a claim at GOAT hitter
