Mookie Betts is hitting .305/.381/.542. Compared to last year, he's walking more, striking out less and hitting for more power. Let's not forget how awesome that is. I'd put him as second best player in the game. Shows you what an important component bat speed and hand usage is in hitting.

Has anyone seen Devers live? How do you think his glove could profile in centerfield?

You almost expect this team to never get runners in from scoring position. They always strike out at the worst possible times. Their situational hitting is horrendous.

Should have put Young to hit for Marrero there.

Matt Barnes is pretty incompetent at pitching.

Situational hitting? What situational hitting? This version of the Sox just has an extremely high frustration factor (it seemed to set in last season after they clinched and continued into the playoffs).
Barnes and Kelly vying for the pitching version of the high frustration factor. Great stuff - but highly variable execution.

Another game that is a microcosm of the season so far...and a perfectly depicts the mediocrity that is their record so far. This team is too talented to be this average.
As for Pomeranz - why shouldn't a pitcher who we got as damaged goods..well, be often damaged?

In his last 11 appearances, Matt Barnes has walked nine and struck out five in 9 2/3 innings pitched. His ERA in that span is 7.45 per Brian MacPherson

I saw the Indians DFA'd Michael Martinez. As Marrero is just terrible to watch at bat, was Martinez ANY good last year? I can't recall. I'm at a loss with D'Arnaud on the 25 - flip in Martinez instead?

Not sure if people notice just how many players are injured this year. I bet they have surpassed the # of games missed last season already.

But that to me doesn't explain some of the pretty awful ABs with RISP by healthy, quality players. I do think they are still adjusting to the loss of a big heart (and bat) on the team. The team is simply not much fun to watch when they go into these funks.

The team is simply not much fun to watch when they go into these funks. If everyone performed the way people on this board expected, the team would win 130 games and most of the players would be future Hall of Famers. It's a long season. Let them get healthy if they ever do. You explain some pretty awful ABs because it's baseball, and that's what happens at times. Quietly, Mookie is even better than last year and he has barely started to warm up.

Let's agree to disagree on this. They are not all that unhealthy - they are missing pitchers for sure - but not so much offense (Panda - no loss there - Holt? shouldn't be so important).
