If Indiana trades George to the Lakers, you can kiss 2-5 goodbye next year.

Also wouldn't Jackson have a higher floor than Tatum as a guy who at worst can probably be a Shumpert type? I would say Jackson is a bigger Tony Allen pre knee injury as a floor. Add in that I bet he can create and pass better than Allen every could. I hate to use this comp for Tatums floor, but no one comes to mind. Nbadraft.net says Houston/Granger. That just makes no sense, as both were very good shooters. Paul Pierce but not as good of a shooter or scorer. Like Pierce lite. Both Ford and Pelton agree Tatum is one of the safest bets in draft. His floor is a guy that's going to score, rebound, play ok D and struggle with his outside shot. Just like with Fultz his crazy high skill level really raises his floor. He is also younger and bigger than Jackson. I also agree that Tatum frame looks like it can carry more weight than Jackson. Tatum is 6'8'' with a 6'11'' wingspan. That's elite size for a sf.

If Indiana trades George to the Lakers, you can kiss 2-5 goodbye next year. Agreed but right now there is no reason to think this is a realistic possibility. The reports I've seen have been the Lakers are not planing to make an offer and it makes little sense for them to.

Woj reporting that Knicks aren't ruling out trading Porzingis. What would you be willing to give up? I wouldn't even make a suggestion because I'd be ridiculed for it not being enough. I think he's over-rated

You might not be alone. While Ford suggested #3, LAL pick and a rotation member, a lot of people commented that it was WAY too much (bc that's, basically, #1 overall and a rotation guy).
I agree that it would be too much.
#3 plus a rotation guy??
It's since been reported that the asking price is extremely high (to the point that teams don't believe Jackson is seriously shopping him).

Stein is reporting that he and Ramona Shelburne are being told that LAL and IND are now talking George.
Makes some sense (depending on price) as getting max room next year to sign him isn't a layup for them. They'd have to get rid of some salaries given the contracts for Deng and Mozgov.

Porzingnis is a very unique player. A true two way player, he was just about equal in both defensive and offensive value last year. He is the perfect modern day PF. The thing is he's still developing and his range is still big. I think he's a star in the making, with a chance to become a superstar if he keeps developing. One worry is that there wasn't much improvement from year 1 to year 2. I would have traded the number one pick for him. I mean he's a perfect fit. The thing is they would want a ton for him. They most likely want a superstar type return. Think #3, Lakers and Nets picks, plus Crowder. To that I say no thanks. If it was simple the number one pick, I think the Unicorn would be a Celtic. If he was in draft, he goes #1, without question.
If your going to make a big trade, I would rather you go after a young guy like the Unicorn, rather than Butler.

Don't be surprized if he's moved on the cheap. George has killed the Pacers leverage. Saying he's going to opt out and then that he's going to LA. Outside of the Lakers who would risk giving up a ton for him? I don't see the Cavs giving up Love for him. They need to add talent to there core 3, not just switch out a player. If I was the Cavs I trade for Melo, send them Thompson. That gives them more firepower to beat the Warriors. That's a finals I want to see next year. That would be really fun to watch. It would like an NBA all star game. So if you're the Pacers, what would you take? Best offer you get. I don't wait till trade deadline. The thing with the Lakers is if you give up the #2 pick, is there enough talent for him to stay long-term? Adding George to Ball, Ingram, Russell, Randle, Clarkson and Zubac could make for a nice future. If you give up the #2 pick and another young player, now you have limited upside. The Lakers hands are tied because they have already traded future picks. So unless the Pacers would take a package that doesn't include the #2 pick, I'm not sure I would trade for him.

Making this more interesting (maybe?) is that George and Russell (thought to be a main piece in a deal for PG13) share the same agent and they'd like to play together.

If Russell is the main piece and no #2 pick it makes sense for Lakers to trade for him.

The Lakers are going to have to trade talent to dump contracts to sign someone to put with George. If they give up anything more than Clarkson and the 28 they are foolish and even that should be questioned.

The latest I saw was Russell and #28 (though there would have to be more salary in there).

If they give up anything more than Clarkson and the 28 they are foolish and even that should be questioned. What? For starters to get George they will have to ship out one of those bad contracts. Second while Georges value is low, it's not give me away low. The Hawks got the #14 pick for one year of Teague. Russell, Deng and the 28th pick is a good deal for the Lakers. George is one of those stars you can debate if he's a superstar. In this years playoffs against the Cavs he looked like a superstar. Come on Clarkson and the 28th pick, that's just funny.

I read his comment as they are going to have to attach other good players with bad contracts to make room for a second player to go with George (creating room for a max contract like LBJ??).
So to use some of those assets to get George in the first place will hinder your ability to do so.
If I read that correctly.

Giving up a good package for a guy you can sign in 12 months when you aren't going to compete either way over that period is beyond dumb. See Knicks - Anthony

One step at a time. Get George and become a playoff team. That will help you recruit players next year. Then make a move to dump salary. James is a pipedream. I don't think there's any chance he leaves Cavs. If he does it to create a super team. That won't be Lakers.

But can we talk about how dumb those aren't and Mosgov contracts were? Not just dumb... inexcusable

Agree - step one: draft at 2 and 28 Step 2: develop your young players Step 3: sign George when he's a free agent

Of course the real question is "Is Magic beyond dumb?" Or, is he desperate enough to turn this around quickly to make bad value deals in order to have a team that matters again.

The Knicks traded a ton for Anthony. Lakers would still have a ton of young players. The chances the Lakers can sign two elite free agents next year is just about zero. George could help recruit a guy next year, just like Thomas helped us land Horford.

So Ford is reporting that Jackson won't work out for Boston unless Boston commits to taking him with the #3 pick.

The Lakers signings last year cost the GM his job and that seems about right. They were about as bad as it gets!
