See I saw Zizic differently; I thought he moved well for a guy his size. He got beat back down the court a few times but that will change with coaching and is a league adjustment thing.
He is tough that's for sure.

Tatum is going to be a good rebounder.

It's July 3rd at 7pm and I'm getting ready to watch Celtics summer league... if this happens again next year I'm going to re-evaluate my life. Lol the Celtics *should* have high picks next year. Get ready to see your therapist.

Hayward decision day.... nervous Yeah biggest day for the Celtics since the Garnett trade. We were probably saying this last year about Durant too but if the Celtics can't land Harward, then really I don't think they can land anyone outside of overpaying for really good players (like Horford or Isaah). They Celtics need this or their plans just go into long term view fully from here on out if they can't land Hayward. They have no where to go but to the long term view imo. They just don't have the cap space moving forward.

If they don't get Hayward, I don't think it has anything to do with them not being able to sign free agents. There are only a couple each year worth signing and this year for the Celtics there was only one. None of the PGs made sense for them and Griffin never really hit the market. Those aren't good odds.

I mean, that sort of is the whole point when it comes to the Celtics and free agency. They never have the best odds due to weather, best talent not on their team, etc.

We need outside shooting, rebounding and rim protection. Tatum and Hayward would give the first part. I'm not sure where we get the rest....still going to be problems. Without Hayward, we will need a strong contribution from Tatum to improve on last year.
Will Crowder be miffed enough knowing he was included in trade talks that it negatively impacts his play?

If they sign Hayward; I expect Crowder to get traded.
The team probably isn't winning a championship this season, but over the next 2-3 years the rebounding will improve with Brown, Tatum and Zizic. They are all good rebounders. Tatum had those long arms and good hands; he gets boards you don't expect. Zizic is a bruiser with good hands and right and Jaylen is a really good rebounder for his size.
Rim protection? Well that can come in different ways as well by you can't be good at everything.
Btw, Golden State is one of the worst rebounding teams In the NBA.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if they move Bradley and play Hayward mostly at the 2. Tatum and Brown are bigger threats to Crowder.

Based on Carmelo, Marcus is a future all-star? I like all the comps to old school guards but will his O ever improve enough to be an all-star? That would be a surprise, a great surprise but I doubt it is very likely. projects.fivethirtyeight.com/carmelo/marcus-smart/

The Woj piece about GH and PG suggested contingencies. I assumed that meant for GH (and we've seen many of them gone now).
Could also have meant contingencies for PG. Still think Danny makes changes this offseason.

Zizic is a guy who thrives as the roll man in the pick-and-roll. He's not a leaper but is relatively mobile for his size and can finish below the rim. Unfortunately, he'll have a tougher time showing that skill set in summer league, which is generally heavier on the one-on-one play. Zizic is not a real refined post player and relies on just bullying guys out of the way, which won't work as well in the NBA when he's matched up against guys as strong as he is.
What will really determine how good Zizic is in the NBA is how well he can defend. He's never going to be a big shot-blocker because of his lack of ups, but the difference between Zizic, starting center and Zizic, twelfth man on the bench is how well he picks up on the intricacies of pick-and-roll and help defense.

Jalen Brown has really improved his finishing at the rim in his first year. He started out as a guy who just drove into defenders, bricked a ton of layups and needed foul calls to consistently get points on his drives. Now, you see him confidently gliding through the defense, using spin moves and hesitation dribbles and finishing at the rim with finger rolls and using the glass.

Brown is a work in progress...but he is obviously working to progress. Seven TOs yesterday are testament to his still bull in China approach but at least against this competition level there seemed to an improved handle, more moves and head up awareness. He is so explosive that if he can harness it...lookout. The 3 ball was very smooth. He is going to max his ability. Tatum looked advanced with a capability of getting his own shot...something that we are deficient at. He also sported a bit of Dirk with his fall away jumpers. Zizic surprised a bit to the downside for me juxtaposed to reports. He can be moved by NBA big men due to his slender build so positioning, anticipation and attitude will factor for rebounds. Few phi slamma jammas are in store. By his own assessment, he offers rebounding and toughness.

I can take it if Hayward goes back to Utah, but if he goes to Miami I'll be bummed. TBH though I'm glad Gallinari isn't the back up plan, doesn't make sense to use the cap space on him. Sign 1/1 overpaying deals for guys who won't even play, outside of maybe some bigs to replace the guys they lose. If no Hayward then focus needs to be Jaylen and Tatum.

Tatum looks great. A highly skilled scorer that fills the box score. Brown can learn a ton from him.
Brown looks better, but he had a ton of TO. I agree his handle looks a lot better. Have to love him demanding to play. It sure looks like he has been working on his game.
Zizic was about what I expected. Like others said he was never going to look great in this setting.
Jackson still looks like a rookie adjusting to the NBA. He missed a ton of easy shots. We have yet to even come close to the player I watched at Notre Dame. It might make more sense to keep Allen for his D. We could lose Smart and Bradley next year.

George Hill to Sacramento 3/57m... didn't they just draft a PG? Just when you think the Kings are starting to be smart they go and do things like this. Should have just handed the keys to Fox and the young guys for a year or two. If you wanted a Vet you don't bring in a guy that is going to take minutes from the young guys. A max offer to Porter while risky makes sense. Hill makes zero sense for a rebuilding team.
