Oh there is no rational reason for it, I admit. Just getting a sinking feeling we're not going to like this part of it. I really don't care what we get back. It allows us to sign Hayward and open up time for Tatum and Brown then it's a win. That being said I would like a good return; just won't complain if it's not.

The strength of our team last year was a lot of good, tenacious players. Trading talent in Crowder, Smart, Bradley, letting KO, Green and Jerebko all go is scary for the amount of turnover and talent loss. Depending on player return, we would be woefully weak and even shorter at guard. Danny & Co. will work it out but the situation is fraught with risk and incredible complexity. They are not losing talent they are gaining talent. The concern might be losing certain experience but to reach where we want to go the talent needs to get experience. Brown -Tatum - Hayward are all more talented than any of the above. I do think the dirt dog tenacious narrative is a bit over played and revisionist history. The true narrative last year was wondering where a lot of that tenacity we t from the year before. People were throwing things out like "this team thinks it is better than it is... they need to get back to out working teams. C's are gaining Hayward and Tatum. True, Brown will garner more minutes. I had read where we need to trade Jae, Smart and Bradley plus to get under the cap. But if all we are left with at guard is IT and Rozier,.....what then? If we trade those guys we better get a guard back....likely a lesser player at smaller bucks. We need to take pressure and playing time away from IT not rely on him more. His injury could diminish his explosiveness as well. We could really be hurting at guard. And what happens next year when we have to pay IT? We will certainly be in luxury territory with no room to maneuver. Crowder in a salary dump 'trade' seems poor..... Semi is big...don't know how agile. Over 2 games I see D-League.

They're not trading all three players.

I am with pedro, I am no rocket scientist so I am not going to try and figure out the cap numbers. But it seems to me that they need to trade one of the three. Right now it appears several teams are interested in crowder. Which is good. This probably gives minutes to brown and tatum. Reading this site the theme seems to be that the Celtic's are high on Jackson. I have also heard rumors that they also like allen. There is also a rumor that the knicks are interested in Smart. Losing both crowder and smart probably does not hurt that much. But the key is what do they get back? You do not want to just give them away for nothing either. But, at the same time you have to make the return work under the cap rules. I also think that Danny is looking at several things long term here. This coming year with Hayward they have a shot to win the east and maybe the whole thing. But next year he has possible 2 top 5 picks that have high contract numbers. Assets that he can almost guarantee one of the top 3 picks. IT's contract. Does Danny believe that IT can lead them to the title and do you pay max for extended years? Not going to argue that one again with umass. Danny is smarter than I am, so he knows whether he wants to tie up huge money on a 5'9" guard. What impact does another big contract have on the total picture? Looks like Tatum is a stud and a great pick. Do not think there is a difference skill wise between him and fultz. But, Danny saw something diff that he wanted in tatum and did not see in fultz. m and I have seen him play several times. Danny is still looking at putting 10 lbs in a 5 lb bag. Lots of players and LOTS of money flowing around. trying to win a title and get the 12 best guys for the right money.

I guess Terry Rozier just posted an Instagram pic saying "here today, gone tomorrow".
Do with that what you will

Well since all the rumors are surrounding Crowder and Smart then Bradley is clearly gonna go.

Good for KO that's another really good fit for him.

If they are dealing Crowder it's either bc they are getting something good for him or because he's too much of a baby to accept a role with Hayward.

Hope that if it's just Crowder, it would be done by now. Also, I think Exum is playing tonight (if he's a part of this, wouldn't they have him sit out).

Don't count out Nader making the C's. He was very good in the D league last year and has played well in Utah. He has quickness and range. With KO gone, he has a chance.

Do we get any benefits from staying over the cap?

I don't think Exum makes any sense for the Cs. There's not really any time for him to play and develop as a ball-handler behind Thomas and Smart. There's even less time at the wing and he's an RFA after this year. He has upside for sure, but he's averaged a whopping 5.4 PPG over his two NBA seasons, granted he was playing those at age 19 and 21. But, I'm not holding my breath on him becoming a really impactful player.

While I don't think it's Exum, this is a fluid situation. He may not make sense BEHIND those two, but what if they have a taker for Smart?
Let's not go down the road of whether they should do that. The point is to get the maximum value for the asset. Don't worry about fit on team. That will work itself out.

Exum only has a year left like Smart so it feels odd that would invest in him and not Smart unless they like his upside

There are different exceptions that you can use when you are over the cap depending on whether you are over the apron or not.

By the way there was something that came out today that said Brad Stevens only has 3 positions:
Ball handler Wing Big

I saw that. It used to be Ball Handlers, Wings, Swings and Bigs but I guess distinction between Wings and Swings has "disappeared" in his mind.
