Not trying to make a big stink about this, but I'm seeing the words "blessed" and "God" pop up an absolute ton. Its almost as if guys needed to have 60 grade religious identification to be drafted by us this year. Whatever floats your boat though, I'm not hating. Have noticed several times last few days posters taking somewhat dim views of picks thanking God for something. Just say the said pick wrote "Praise be Allah" instead.. Would there be the same fuss?? My point is this is a sports board and I know many of us like to come here and mostly thru the year just read it and don't post for this reason.. can the politiking please go??

This has been going on for a long time. You ever see prayer circles after football games? It's been going on for decades that I've noticed but probably even since religion started. Nothing new except for Twitter. Plenty of current and former Red Sox players tweet religious things. I'm not sure why it bothers anyone since it's easy to ignore. It's not anywhere close to Tim Tebow-level.

I'm not going to go too far down this road, but there's a performative aspect to it that is more irksome to a lot of people than the strict religiosity. It's the difference between thanking God (which I don't think most people have a problem with), and Thanking God On Twitter Where Everyone Can See You Thank God (which leads to the eye rolling).

Engel Beltre also made it to the big leagues so its not like he was a complete flame out professionally either.

Lots of kids grow up super religious. Not my thing, but I'd rather have them than the Denney's of the world. Chances are most of them are great teammates.

Looking forward to the spreadsheet, and seeing signings fill in.

Just for the record, I really don't mind it in the slightest. I was really just trying to make a neutral observation that I've noticed these theme seemingly moreso than ever before.

Good news that the signings are expected to happen quickly this year. I'm hoping thats truly the case rather than sweating until the last minute and speculating for weeks. I'm definitely interested to see how much Scherff signs for (think it could be anywhere between 600k and 1 mill), Thompson (could see anywhere between slot and 600k), and Netzer (I think this will be the pick that disappoints and is close to slot like Anderson last year). Also, keep an eye to see if we could possibly trim 100k on Houck's pick, but I kind of doubt it. Heck, even guys in the Top 5 (Wright, McKay) are apparently going overslot which really limits a team's overall draft when you need to find an extra mill for your top pick who won't settle for 5-6 mill.

Thompson has pretty much no leverage given his age. He'll definitely be quick.

If and/when he signs he will make a nice pairing with Groome as two young HS arms for the future.

I m 27 and work in Boston and most people my age are surprised when I tell them I go to Church.

I've got to say I'm pretty excited that Scherff is seemingly on his way to Ft. Myers and is pumped about it. After doing more digging, he really reminds me of a Kopechian-like talent that could bring Deepjohn out of the shadows. But seriously, he's a big, strong Texan who is always in the weight room and pumps mid-to high 90's heat and secondaries with incredible spin rates. For what its worth Rikard went on to praise his ability to throw strikes which I found a bit surprising. Obviously, there is a ton of risk inherent to all HS arms, but I don't think its unreasonable to say that his ceiling is on par with only Devers, Groome, and maybe Mata (requiring projection of improved stuff) in our system.

It's such a good sign that he signs this early. His bonus can't be too much over slot, since they don't have the full picture yet.

If I was 18-21 and looking at a $1M payday, I might thank the almighty. If it was a $100K, I might be more inclined to think it was my own hard work, and perhaps the expensive lessons that dad paid for.

Hopefully this plus a nice July 2nd haul will help restock the system. I'm sorry, I'm drawing a blank -- what's happening on July 2?

Back to this Oraj Anu kid. After the Rusney debacle, I'm sure the sox learned their lesson to not drool over a toolsy kid that looks great in an under armour shirt.

I'm not a fuge fan of religion, but that's not for this board. That said, as annoyed as I am by this type of thing, it's still better than drinking problems and questions about maturity. There are some normal people out there still, right? Like, somewhere between these two extremes?
