The God thing has as much to do with the demographics and geography of baseball as much as anything I'd guess.
Here's a terrible idea, but I can't figure out why. I hate the leverage thing with commitments to college etc. If you want to give players power just let them all be free agents after high school (within the cap).
Why not just have everyone formally enter the draft IF they want, and have a binding commitment to going pro if drafted in the first three or five or ten rounds. Or even have each player write his own tender where he has to go pro if drafted in that round or higher. There's gotta be a way to eliminate signing guessing games and have top available talent drafted at the top.

Lots of kids grow up super religious. Not my thing, but I'd rather have them than the Denney's of the world. Chances are most of them are great teammates. I don't know about the great team mates part ( Bible thumpers can be pretty annoying) but 100% agree with the general sentiment. There are a lot worse things any these kids could be in to.

If this thread gets into a religious conversation, I'll hit the snooze button and will see you all on this thread after the deadline to sign all the picks in July.

Back to this Oraj Anu kid. After the Rusney debacle, I'm sure the sox learned their lesson to not drool over a toolsy kid that looks great in an under armour shirt. Again, Anu made Perfect Game's All-Florida team. He's been playing for some years with travel and club teams here in the states. So... what is it that you find similar about Castillo and Anu? Also, if Rusney Castillo had gotten 28th-round pick money - heck, if he'd just gotten first-round pick money - he'd be starting for someone in the majors right now. He's in a really weird situation.

Did we know Aaron Perry's season ended early with an injury?

Andrew Carber is a 2016 RHP with a 6-9 225 lb. frame from Blue Bell, PA who attends Upper Dublin HS. Extremely tall and long frame with broad shoulders. Collegiate golfer at Clemson who is looking to get back into baseball and pitching and has obvious athletic talent . Big rocker step delivery with a high leg raise, works with rhythm and tempo but has lots of variables in his delivery, bit cross body on release, tight 3/4's arm action, creates good plane and extends out front well. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph with occasional cutting action glove side. Tends to slow arm on curveball but will flash some depth at times, will learn to maintain arm speed and develop more power on this pitch. Very intriguing pitcher and back story with the chance to really improve with repetitions and innings. Interesting story for sure www.perfectgame.org/Players/PlayerProfile.aspx?ID=480324

Please let us stop the religion talk if our prospects want to thank God let them, my only hope is that they can hit or throw a fastball or curveball and have other baseball skills. I come to this board to see who signs and who is going back to school.

I'm as heathen as they come, but if we get a TOTR pitcher or middle-of-the-order bat out of this draft class, I'll praise Jesus with them all day long.

I do agree this would be a different conversation if every drafted prospect got on Twitter and praised the good word of Pedro Martinez.

Are we expecting anyone to sign and be ready for the Lowell opener on Monday?

I would note that the pitching part of this draft is EXTREMELY right hand oriented. I was wondering ahead of the draft if that would be the case, since our current and immediate future staff is so left-hand heavy. Longer term, we need to balance the staff a little more (conceding that I would be willing to tolerate somehow a rotation with, say, 5 peak Chris Sales.)

Are we expecting anyone to sign and be ready for the Lowell opener on Monday? The only guys who might aren't anyone you care about. The top guys are all going to be waiting on various health and drug tests to come back even if they have agreed.

Is money for continued college after the playing career is over still considered cap free under the new CBA?

It might also be helpful to remind folks that draftees, their friends and families could be lurking on these pages. I am most interested in their skills on the field and how they can help the Red Sox.

Some met last year and took multiple pictures of messaged over the off season here and DL'd some up close that had posted here last year of their son.

12th rounder Beau Hanna is likely signing. Any idea if it will be for more than $125k?

22nd rounder Hunter Haworth was shut down late in his season for a back injury. He's headed to Boston for evaluation and will likely sign. If he's injury free, he'll head to Lowell. If there's an injury that doesn't gum up his signing, he'd head to GCL for rehab.

Selfish being person that I may be I kinda hope that Perry goes to UK but I would be happy if he signed. Note I am a UK fan and do follow the baseball team closely. I like the first ten round draft picks especially Scherff anytime you can get power arms I like that a lot.
