I'd imagine Danny Mars would be added to that list too.

Trenton Kemp, or is he not advanced enough?

They can send one guy who is below AA. I think Trenton Kemp would be a strong candidate. Not sure when he'll be back, but he's lost a ton of AB's, but was mashing.

Anyone care to guess which Red Sox head to the AFL? Here are my guesses: Michael Chavis Jeremy Rivera Josh Tobias Jake Romanski Jake Cosart Bobby Poyner Ty Buttrey I really like most of this list. I don't think they can send Rivera because he's from Puerto Rico and they have a winter league. I'd instead say Chad De La Guerra is a candidate from the Portland infield. Chavis is the only one I'd write in there in pen, unless they think his elbow needs rest more than time in the AFL. Kemp having so few Salem ABs strikes me as making him a bit of a stretch for the AFL. If he'd played more it'd be similar to Mars last year. I'd say it's more likely Mars goes again than Kemp does, even if the latter is healthy by then. They'll probably also need to send a SP (last time they didn't was 2012). Lakins would've been the obvious choice if he hadn't gotten hurt again. They can't send Dedgar because, again, his home country has a winter league. I wouldn't send Shawaryn after his first full season. I think the guy might be Justin Haley again after his return from the Twins, presuming health. If not him, default to Stankiewicz. I hadn't realized they hadn't sent a catcher since 2012, unless I missed someone. I wonder if Romanski is more likely or Procyshen? It's possible both have (not) hit their way off the radar a bit. Would they send Ball again, and say this time we're actually moving you into a bullpen role, let it fly? Yankory Pimentel will, I think, be just off of his suspension and is R5 eligible. I think Instructs more likely, but he might be a guy as well. My guess: Chavis Romanski De La Guerra Tobias Haley Poyner Buttrey

CDLG listed as an outfielder on the team roster and a FB on his individual team page. Quite a versatile guy!

Do you call Brian Johnson up in Sept if he's going to the AFL? I'm guessing no, wondering if it opens the door for Beeks (though there would have to be another 40man move to call him up).

Gonna be nice to see a few of these players in person. My sister is a Blue Jays fan so it's nice they're on the same team. Won't have to wait until they play each other this year before going

Do you think they replace Johnson with another starter like McAvoy or Stankiewicz or do they go the reliever route like Jake Cosart? I would prefer to watch Cosart myself but you never know

They generally only send one starter. Keep in mind there are 5 MLB teams sending players to each AFL club.

One interesting note from Cafardo (maybe the first time ever) in his article this week was that MLB might try experimenting with ear pieces from catchers, coaches, and the pitchers this AFL.
I think that's a great idea. Speed the game up however you can.

Kevin McAvoy is now on the Peoria roster. He's apparently the Johnson replacement, and if he's working in relief as I suspect he is, that makes a lot of sense. I'd love to see him transition into that role next year.

Chavis 2-4, 2B, and a run scored. Played third. 2 game tally: 1 DH, 1 3B, 0 1B. I expect they’d bring on the 1B play slowly. Tobias 1-4. CDLG with an inside the park home run.
