Ayers is my boy... I was sad they lost him after 2014... he was really solid for that team after they acquired him during the year. He wasn't very good before or after he played here but he seems like the type of guy that fits the Patriots. He's also an edge player where they are lighter. I feel good about him being out there and available.
Nink, also said he was not ruling out a return.

Hope it happens!

We go into the first game with 3 edge players. Marsh was just acquired. Langi is out. So it's going to be very interesting what they do. Two of the LBs we thought might help our on IR or out for the first game. Leaving only Van Noy. Thing is he spent ton of time last year as a coverage LB in passing downs.
So I would love a player like Ayers. He would have made more sense than adding Bolden.
We lost a league high 4 players to claims. I have no clue why we waited a few extra days to IR a player and than resign Bolden. It makes no sense. We could have kept one and then made a move after teams had set there rosters. Maybe you still lose the player, but it would have given you a better chance at getting a young player to the practice squad. Better yet just keep the player on the roster over Bolden. We don't need 5 special teams only players on our roster. That is a very high number, even for the Patriots. We also have guys like Burkhead and Marsh that are very good special teams players. Players like Burkhead and Marsh should allow us to keep less special team only players, not more.
Also why can't we get young players that our good on special teams that can also provide developmental depth. Look at Burkhead and Marsh last year. Great at special teams but they can also play RB and DE. Instead we keep stacking the team with special team only players like Slater, Ebner, Bolden, Bademosi and Flowers. Older players with little to no upside.

Tend to agree on Bolden vs someone else but we waited to IR McClellin so he'd be eligible to return. Placing someone on IR during the cutdown means he'd be out for the season.

I don't like that rule that they have to count on final preseason 53 roster, but don't count on regular season 53 once on IR. It make no sense. You should get one preseason IR guy that can come back and doesn't count on your preseason final 53 roster. Otherwise you force a team to cut a guy and them resign him or someone else.
That's just me though. I also think rosters should be bigger than 53 players in a highly physical sport with a high injury rate like football. Practice squad players can be poached and every year teams have to bring guys off the street for depth due to injuries that don't know the system.
It will never change though, as it helps crappy teams that can't identify talent. Those greatly outnumber the good teams that can.
