Why not use a timeout before that third down play? Do we get credits for saving our timeouts?

I'm almost to the point of quitting the NFL without a thought about the protests. The officiating is so terrible and subjective that no one can convince me that it's not rigged anymore. Penalties occur on every single play but they call ticky tack ones at the most important times. Or not, depending on which team the league wants to win. Yeah Brady is really the only reason I still watch every game.

The last drive for the Panthers included two 1st downs on 3rd down ticky tack penalties on the Patriots. Those calls are never made when the game is tied late in the 4th quarter and they usually are never called period. Granted, the Patriots shouldn't have been in that position, but the Panthers also didn't deserve to win and got help.

Everything draws a flag, it's preposterous.

I have some hope for DL, as Marsh, Wise, Butler and Guy are all new. We do seem to miss Valentine though. At the same time our secondary only has Gilmore, everyone else is a holdover. How in the world are they so bad? 4 games in and the DL has improved slightly, but our secondary looks awful still. Usually our coaches can fix things in 4 games, but not this year. We can't stop the run or the pass this year.
So if you want to add a player what position do you make a trade for?
I think we need a DE and a DT, unless Branch can bounce back. Losing Valentine and Branch not playing a lot takes away our two big clog the lane type DTs.

Too many penalties. Killed us last week, too. Not enough receivers. Hopefully, Gronk gets better next week. Mitchell comes back later on, too. Defense played better, but not that much better. At least, they have 10 days to figure it all out. So far, it's not a Super Bowl team. But, it's early. First time in years that I thought they could lose any given game. Still have to face Pittsburgh, Denver, Oakland. Buffalo could be tough. At least, Miami sucks. Will the Tampa kicker ever suit up again? Got lucky with him.
They just don't look like the same team we're used to seeing. I think the loss of Endelman hurts more than anyone realized. Maybe the team's 2nd MVP. Anyway, every game now is a tossup no matter who they're playing. That's different. No easy wins anymore. Brady is taking a pounding. Scary. I used to hate the 10 days off. Now, I'm thankful for it. It's going to be a long season.

It's a process - and the game seemed like work in progress at least trending in the right direction. Gronk was missed in the red zone situations - with him in the game, the score would not have been nearly as close, I think.
Biggest issue is the O line letting Brady get beat up. I do think that the defense will come around and figure it out.
A win is a win...but nothing is easy this year...yet

Tony Romo said it best, Brady is getting hit more because he is holding the ball longer. You replaced Edleman with Cooks. Cooks takes 3 times as long to get open with his routes. He drops an easy catch over the middle. Dorset hardly played and didn't even get a single target all game. Maybe he's not 100%, otherwise it makes no sense not to get him the ball. It's like they don't know what to do. They will figure it out, it's just going to take time.
Jarvis Landry is said to be available via trade. You can't fully replace Edleman, but that might be about as good as you can do for a slot guy.
On D we really miss Valentine. Also Guy has not been that good. I notice more bad plays than good plays. Play Branch more, he will clog up the middle and help you. Don't be fooled we got lucky last night as Winston was just off for most of the game. Their kicker missing easy FGs, lucky.
Our coaching has been bad. Last week not calling any timeouts to try and save time to get the ball back. Then not kicking a FG in a 9 point game.

Haha, yeah, I'm done with the NFL after 126 penalty yards on the Eagles tonight and 1 penalty yard on the Panthers on a very clean game. It can't get more obvious what is going on. When there are penalties on every single play, it's impossible to complain about penalties that are called. So goodbye.

My boy Dion Lewis making noise in this game. Second straight week where Dion has been the best feature back on the Patriots. He carried the Patriots in the second half after Gisselle fumbled the football. I like Gisselle and White, but Lewis is the best running back on the Patriots right at this moment.

Lewis is the best all around back for sure. White is still the best receiving back and it's not even close. I think they should run some two back sets with the both of them... they can both pick up a blitz.
But yea Lewis is very nice and I thought rumors of him being cut were as ridiculous as last years rumors of White being cut.

I always hated the Giants back then. The announcers always made excuses for them. My team was the Colts lead by Johnny U. There was no protecting the QB back then. You could hammer a QB 10 minutes after the play with no penalty. Johnny had a one bar face mask, Bobby Lane the QB of the Lions, didn't have any. Tittle never won anything. Loved it when the Colts beat the Giants 2 years in a row '58 and '59 for the championship and made all those New Yorkers cry.
In my opinion, Unitas was the GOAT. The man with the "Golden Arm". Oh yeah, he also called his own plays.

Cutting (or more likely, trading) would've been undesirable but not ridiculous (much like trading a future starting QB isn't ridiculous).
The talk on here had little to do with talent. Instead, the talk considered:
1. The amount of money spent on signing/extending other RBs 2. The amount of snaps given to RBs in NE historically (or, better, how many RBs get snaps). 3. Lewis' injury history
Remember, he only had 7% of the snaps in Game 1 (last among actual RBs - not including Bolden). IIRC, Burkhead was getting most of the snaps in Game 2 until he got hurt. So, before the Burkhead injury, Lewis was 4th on the depth chart.
And that doesn't even factor the different packages they are running bc of not having JE11.
I'm ecstatic that he wasn't traded/cut, but just bc he's made the most of the circumstances, doesn't mean it was crazy to see a scenario where they moved on from him.

Well I guess they could of traded him on a one year deal, but there would of been no equal value him for him with him being on a one year deal.
I still think it would of been insane to just cut him, even with all the injuries, because injuries are a huge part of football.

So rumors have said a trade for Eric Ebron or Bennett could make sense. Ship Allen and a pick for either player. I would rather Bennett, but I have a feeling Packers don't want to singal season is over, even though that's basically whats happended. Maybe he hasn't been a weapon for Packers like he was for us. Allen just sucks and needs to go.
