I'm always hesitant to pull a pitcher early because of the potential need for relievers in the next game, but I'm fine with pulling Sale after 6 or part way during this next inning. I'd agree if it weren't September. They could put Velazquez in for the next 4 innings and they'd still have a 99.9% chance of winning.

If this game was closer, or if this was a Yankee game, I'd be screaming because of this ump. He's been bad all game long.

The umpire got 5 of the 6 ball/strike calls wrong on that at-bat.

Okay that's enough for this game with Sale, John Farrell.

I don't mean to keep banging this drum but Beni is catching Judge in some key stats. I'd be curious: if every GM was secretly polled, how many would take Judge over AB? Edit: obviously I'd take Beni everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. ROY or career? Well, poll for career. But I maintain that he should be closing the gap on ROY. Judge has been below average in the second half.

Lol all he does is produce ground ball outs and strikeouts. He's so nasty, even when he isn't at full strength.

Just popping in to say hi - worried about my cousin and brother who are staying put in FL (Naples and Tampa)....been watching the game, another wonderfully no drama night. Sale brilliant, Smith so encouraging...and plenty of offense. What's not to love!

7 pitch 8th for Hembree should get him the 9th also.
Since the 19th inning win, they've out scored the other team 24-4.

Teams need to start feeding signs to the Sox so they can go back to not being able to muster more than four hits against guys with 4.80 ERAs.

No Núñez or Pedroia at second tomorrow. Sounds like Brock Holt and his .178 batting average in a pennant race.

Astros got swept in Oakland, 11-1 and 11-4.
Now tied for the first seed with Cleveland, with the Sox 5 games back with 20 left.

Astros got swept in Oakland, 11-1 and 11-4. Now tied for the first seed with Cleveland, with the Sox 5 games back with 20 left. If things keep going this way, the Sox and Astros will play at least 7 in a row against each other. Teams that have opened the post-season against their final regular-season opponent: 1981 NL West splt-season DS: Astros finished the season with 3 in LA, came back to Houston for 2, went back to LA for the final 3. Home team won every game except the season finale. 1981 AL West split-season DS: A's finished with 3 games in KC, winning the last two; beat them twice more there after an off day, came home and finished the sweep. 1991 ALCS: The Blue Jays finished the season in Minnesota, taking 2 of 3, stayed there and split the first 2 games. They then went home and got swept, losing the series 4-1. 2013: Pirates went to Cinci leading them by 1 for WC home-field advantage, swept them, then came home and beat them again. So the '81 Astros and Dodgers faced each other 8 straight games, but never more than 3 in a row in one city. The '91 Blue Jays and Twins also played each other eight straight games, but with a maximum of 5 straight games in one city. If the Sox can catch the Astros, they'll become the first team to host the same opponent in six straight games, including the post-season. And if the series goes the distance, they'd be the first to face each other 9 straight games.

Sounds like Brock Holt and his .178 batting average in a pennant race. don't forget about Tzu-Wei Lin has just lost the team lead in bWAR / innings played to Mookie. Give him a shot! On a more serious note, Devers is 3 games from supplanting Marrero as our primary 3B for the year. And he'll become second among regular position players in bWAR / PT.
