The Rays certainly came around at the right time (along with the Jays). The Red Sox have done just about everything right this series. Hopefully it continues against the A's, particularly on Thursday, as I have tickets to the game.
I thought there would be a shot for Cleveland to catch Houston, but I didn't think it could happen this fast but 17 game winning streaks can do that, so now there's a likely chance the Sox actually go to Houston instead of Cleveland for the 1st round.
Houston is certainly an excellent team but if given a choice I'd rather see the Red Sox play Houston in the 1st round and Cleveland in the ALCS if it got to that, simply because Kluber twice in a best-of-five is very unappealing especially with Sale's struggles against Cleveland. The drop-off between Kluber and the rest of the rotation is enough that I'd rather see the Sox make Cleveland have to beat them twice when Kluber doesn't start instead of once.
With Houston, you take your chances and hope to hit the pitching, but with the Red Sox offense, that's anything but a given, but it's a chance I would think you'd prefer.
The only downside to missing Cleveland is you have to wonder if they cool off and that cool off period extends into the post-season when supposedly they have Miller back, although you don't know how healthy he'd be.

Farrell starting Holt at 2B.

Farrell starting Holt at 2B. Figures. This is the hardest game to win out of the 3. Cobb is always tough against the Sox and the Rays seem to pound Porcello, but so has everyone else this year.

Edit-
Lol at Holt hitting 7th and JBJ hitting 9th.

They had Porcello's 4 seam fastball at 89-90 but they had the movement of 2 seam fastballs. NESN's pitch tracker needs some work. I didn't see one 4 seam fastball that inning.

Lol that's good Xander. Watch the first two pitches near the middle of the plate, then swing at the pitch that literally hits the plate.

I hope Farrell didn't call for that bunt with Devers at the plate. That is so dumb.

Vazquez!!!
Lol I think I'm the only one posting on the Gameday thread today. The Rays are so bad defensively too.

If the Sox lose this challenge, I'm going to punch the people reviewing this in New York.

I hope Farrell didn't call for that bunt with Devers at the plate. That is so dumb. At Portland, Devers bunted or at least soft hit to the left several times against the shift or when he thought the 3Bman was too deep.

We knew they weren't going to call it safe from New York. Torre is behind the helm of the replay center.

What's the point of replay? If they can screw up something that obvious then why waste anybody's time? Horrendous call.

What's the point of replay? If they can screw up something that obvious then why waste anybody's time? Horrendous call. Took 5 minutes for them to not get the call right. They need to get the replay center out of New York and stop it with the bias that goes on over there. The Yankees have won the most challenges this year. There's no one that can say to me there isn't biased calls over there.

The Sox should be running the replay of that play on the jumbotron between innings for the rest of the game. If they're all so confident in that call, let them see it - over and over again.

Wow, Sam Travis made a nicer pick at first base that I haven't seen from Moreland all year.

Cobb is a nasty pitcher and he's going to get PAID big time by the end of year.

Well that's what you deserve when you give up leadoff doubles, I suppose.

offense needs to keep pace. Porcello pitching well, but needs help.
