Watching Yankee fans complain on the Twitter machine that Showalter and the Orioles rolled over for the Red Sox is probably the greatest schadenfreude possible. It warms the deepest, coldest parts of my being. Like the Orioles didn't roll over for the Yankees. They at least showed up in the first 2 games against us.

I'm sure they weren't crying about it, when the O's swept the Sox in Fenway.

I don't think leaving Sale in was the worst decision Farrell has ever made. But it wasn't smart. There was literally no reason to do it. Especially when you are blowing the other team out and are going to need to rely heavily on Sale in the postseason. We should start to get a clearer picture of who the likely 4 starters for the playoffs will be very soon. ADD: and I wish you would fix your avatar. Apologies, I thought it was just my computer blowing up with regards to the avatar.

[b[Pedro told Grady Little that he could get one more guy out too. and that was a playoff game against an unbelievably good team [/b].[/b] Pedro had 2 outs and had 2 strikes on at least 2 batters. Very fair point, though, nice job.[/quote] [/b] Grady never pitched in the show. He was probably uncomfortable with going against the "will" of a "God". McNamare OTOH went against the will of a "God" back in 86'. McNamara never pitched in the bigs. John Farrell has pitched in the show. He understands. On some occasions you feed the ego, on other occasions you have to play "father knows best". It is a delicate psychological enactment. For now, Farrell has the respect of the pitching staff. Whether this hurts or helps the team going forward will be interesting. Personally I'd like to see Ortiz in the dugout for the final 10 games. I think the pitching is in line to give maximum effort, I just have my doubts about the bats.

Sox having a rookie hazing thing going on.
Devers is in a diaper, Benintendi in a police uniform, Swihart a kangaroo, Scott a banana and Lin is Batman's Robin, Travis and Maddox are jesters.
Not sure about the significance of the selected outfits but Devers seems obvious.

I looked at Pedro Martinez's Twitter account and saw that he hasn't tweeted anything about it yet. He doesn't tweet much, so I'm sure he'll say something about it tomorrow.

yah its totally because JF is a dumbass and not possibly because SALE ASKED TO GO BACK OUT THERE Agree very much with this and I also take this "side" in this discussion. To me the upside of keeping Sale happy and pumped (while adding some adrenaline to the entire team) over something that he probably really cared about was bigger than the downside of having him throw like 10 odd pitches more.

I don't think it was the right call but also not a huge deal. Sale gets extra rest before this next start, which ideally is his last of the regular season as the next would be the final game against the Astros which should not matter. So he'll be on extra rest the rest of the way which seems to help and has me, at least, confident in him in the postseason.

Now I am a little freaked out. the 300 was part of the decision process. ? He's going to get it next start, which would be in Boston. That's weird. I thought Sale wanted to stay out there. I retract most of what i posted, which is my right, given my veteran status on this website.

Hahaha. So can we void all of the above "Sale demanded to go out and Farrell just had to listen to him" arguments? Anyone want to make up a new reason for why Sale just had to pitch the 8th in an 8-0 game?

Farrell is a HUGE reason why the team plays like mad men. You guys can question him all you want, but show me ONE baseball player who wouldn't love to be in Sale's position tonight. Doing it next game would have been nice, but it just wouldn't be the same thing. Now he can relax about it and it was a perfect way to end a cathartic series. Keep the spirits up because they will need it for the next series. All over 10-12 pitches more. It was a great call.

I think for a manager, records should be a part of the decision process. It's no different than any other work place and I believe it gave the team a huge psychological lift going down the final games.
The bigger question though and one that I doubt that a record will be as big an influence is what happens if Sale doesn't get 14K's in his next start (which is likely) then the last game decision would be much more directly one of the playoffs vs. the 313 Pedro record unless, the Yankees were within 1 game in the division race on the final day.

Chris Sale’s last five fastballs: 95.7, 96.4, 98.6, 99, 96.2. Finished with 111 pitches, 77 strikes. . . . Sale was certainly pumped.

Angels lost so we've clinched a playoff spot.
I'd rather see the Angels in a wiLdcard game against the Yankees than the Twins.

So has no one told Mookie he doesn't have to dress up anymore? Pretty sure he's done it every year he's been on the team.
