I wouldn't mind Evans, but agree 100% about no first round pick. Rozier and Smart are like the heart and soul of our D. I've seen enough now that guard isn't a big worry for me. Would still take an Evans or Williams if the cost is low, but that's about it.
A scoring big that rebounds is my number one target. I would give up our first round pick for Randle right now. Young player that just keeps getting better and fits a ton of our needs. Good chance you get him for two years, as he most likely won't get a massive offer next year. His numbers will go down on the Celtics, he won't get the minutes for monster games like yesterday 22 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. We just don't have a big like him that can score in the paint, rebound and draw fouls. He's athletic and a very good option as a small ball center. As a bonus it would be awesome to have both Smart and Randle. For me those were the top two choices for us in the draft and getting both would be awesome.
Monroe while not a great fit, certainly checks a bunch of boxes. Would be the best value if you can just sign him. Always risky waiting though and hoping for a player to be bought out. He also seems like much more of a match up player. Same teams you want to play Baynes a ton against, are most likely the same teams Monroe matches up well against. Does give you the ability to play either offense or defense with a true center. I would focus more on a small ball center, but certainly would welcome Monroe and give Danny a ton of credit.
I would even be happy with a minor deal like Nadar for Henry Ellenson. Not a great fit, but he can shoot, really rebound and pass. Haven't seen a ton of him, mostly preseason, but his skill level impressed me.

Yeah I agree that if you're going to trade a first round pick, it'll most likely be for a guy like Randle.
Evans is versatile and can guard the SF position. So he isn't just limited to the guard position.

Guess they didn’t feel like playing defense today.

Guess they didn’t feel like playing defense today. They look a half step slow but Philly has talent....Simmons, Embiid, Covington, Reddick ...Wait until they get Fultz going....still think we need an athletic big man....if we are lucky we could get one in this draft.

Good read... i really don’t know what i want them to do... i think buy- out is really it. Ilyasova does fit nicely but truthfully, how much will he move the needle? They may obtain his bird rights tho so you can argue he’s not a rental and could be a longish term solution to a shooting big off the bench at cheap dollars. Also, no way I’m trading our first round pick for him... that just seems silly to do for anyone this year. The odds of winning a Title without a fully healthy Hayward are slim so adding a piece doesn’t really improve them that much that I’d be willing to deal that type of asset.

I will be honest - the more i look at Evans the more I like him. Stevens could work some magic with him in my opinion but the combination of cost and benefit don’t line up.

IIyasova caught my eye, as I wasn't thinking about him. After looking at him I don't think think he does much for us. We really need a low post scorer, someone that can get easy buckets and apply pressure pressure in the paint. Right now this team looks lost without Horford, the need is huge for a small ball center. A guy that can battle in the paint and apply pressure on both end of the court. A guy that can really rebound. A guy like Randle, they mention Favors who is another perfect fit or someone like that. Monroe checks a ton of boxes, heck even a flier on Noel wouldn't be crazy. I just think our biggest need is in the paint.

I’m not sure - a true stretch 4/5 i feel might fit better than a Monroe or Noel. Randle I agree with.

But is there a true stretch 4/5 available that would make a difference? Wouldn't Monroe be more effective come playoff time than any stretch guy who is available? Randle would be nice but I don't think that's going to happen.

The Celtics have one of the better stretch 4/5 in the league in Horford. Last year we had KO to go with him and we would get murdered on the glass. Robin Lopez was dominating games against us. Baynes while a useful piece is fairly limited and doesn't play much against some teams. You then have Tatum and Morris as small ball PFs, both add shooting. The only big we have that can really rebound is Theis, but his offensive game is very limited. Seems a stretch 4/5 is just more of the same, unless you can get one that really rebounds and plays D. IIyasova isn't bad, but he seems like a marginal upgrade and sucks at D from what I remember. No way he can battle and create problems for true centers. Guys like Randle, Monroe and even Noel can do things no one on our team can right now. With Noel being a very distant 3rd,like better than nothing type wild card. Randle and Monroe can score in the paint and rebound.

Mirotic would be a good fit but I don't see how it happens. It would take some serious maneuvering.

At the same time is he really this good of a shooter or just a very good small sample size? I just remember how bad he was last year in the playoffs. We abused him all series long, at least last year he seemed like a soft player that got pushed around and played poor D.

Thanks for the link. People who keep talking Baynes down need to read it. He's one of the league's best defenders by the numbers, and the Celtics have an excellent net differential when he's on the court. The gist of the article looks at how well the team meshes defensively despite being so young on average.

I don’t disagree with really any of this; but when i watch the second unit play I really feel they are missing that center who can be a knock down shooter. On the flip side, that’s mostly about scoring so Monroe could do that. He can’t play defense though. I think Noel is kind of redundant.

I have made the point many times that defense is about attitude as much as anything, if you are athletic enough to be in the NBA you can play D. You just have to want it. I think any player who plays for Stevens and with the way the Celtics play will end up playing better D. When you are surrounded by guys who are giving it their all you will step up or they will get on you. Yes there are limitations to this based on foot speed, hops and other things but the desire and intensity go a long way.

I made this argument about Kyrie before he was even rumored to come here when talks about Isaiah and Bradley were on going. We’d seen Kyrie play defense in small spurts so we knew it was possible. I also think it’s different for wings and guards than Centers. Low post guys need a lot more technique, knowledge and timing to play really good defense. I have no doubt they can play better and Monroe theoretically could but i do think it’s different than a guard on the perimeter. By the way, we should be able to say the same thing about rebounding as defense.

If you are a big plodding 5 it is harder but the league has gotten away from those guys recently and even more so as time goes by. Monroe might be a bit of a plodder but he is a good passer so that helps. I think he can be a difference maker for the C's with both the starters and the 2nd unit.

The Irving - Hayward - Brown - Tatum - Horford lineup is going to be really, really good. Surround Irving with four capable shooters, plus Hayward and Horford as secondary creators/passers and the young guys adding athleticism and not having to be thrust into the lead scorer role before they're ready. On defense, they're a little undersized, but lots of length and rebounding on the wings and the ability to switch almost any pick and roll.

Completely agree and they will play a lot together but I’m going to predict Tatum moves to the bench and acts as a Kevin McHale sixth man so they can make him a primary scoring option.

The idea of Tatum on the 2nd unit is actually exciting, let his offense go a little more. Gordon coming back really changes the team a lot. Morris, Tatum, Smart and Rozier along with a big is a pretty good looking bench.
I know this topic is taboo to some but what are the chances he makes an impact this year? Probably doubtful but if he could be ready in 12 weeks that would give him 10 or so games before the playoffs. What if he could play 15-20 minutes? I know, shutup. Can't wait for next year, they should truly be in contention. Probably a big away still but they could get one.
Just saw some highlights of Bagley and man is he impressive, 22 and 12 as a freshman.

Hayward even if he’s back won’t be the impact guy we signed. Can he help? Most likely as a shooter and facilitator but not as a high impact guy. I’m thinking more solid role player.
I’m interested to see how Bagley translates to the NBA.
